View Full Version : Warranty about to expire!
I've got 35,950 miles on my '00 R/T. I brought it in to the dealership last week for some analysis of squeeks and other noises I didn't like. The engine "growls" when cold - deemed normal. Suspension noise when cornering at low speed - front brake job. Leak on B pillar (I think) replaced all door moldings. Transmission shifter gummy after hard city driving - normal (really?). I couldn't think of anything else for them to look at. Are there any known problems or TB's that I should have them look at or perform? I'm particularly concerned about the drivetrain in these cars. Nothing looks cheap to fix. Should I get an extended warranty while I can, or are the 2nd gen. cars built a little better?
Thanks,
Chris
IntrepidXJ 09-26-2001, 09:26 AM I always get the extended warranty just for the piece of mind. But that's just me.
btc909 09-27-2001, 01:56 AM Should you get the extended warranty, HUMMM lemme think, YES! 600 bucks to fix a dam gas gauge in my 98ES.
DjPiLL 09-28-2001, 11:13 AM Yeah thats what im debating. The price for a Chrysler extended warranty is the same from delivery till 12 months of owning the car. My 1yr anniv. is in May... so in April im going to consider if i should get a warranty or not.
The best quote i got is a 6yr/75k $100 ded. package for about $950-$1000. That will protect my car all the way to April 2008. I seriously doubt ill ever go past 75k before that time since 90% of my driving is city.

What you guys think?
RapidTransit 09-28-2001, 02:40 PM I like the extended warranty idea. After all, the power seat unit alone runs about $1200 - I've been told. :(
DjPiLL 09-28-2001, 02:44 PM The best thing about this warranty is...
- You can transfer it to another owner if you sell your car
- You can sell the remaining part back to Chrysler if you trade it into a dealer
SPOOK R/T 09-28-2001, 07:06 PM Get it well be the best thing you can do. Talk to any service tech, they all well tell you to get the extended warranty.
oldF1fan 10-09-2001, 04:30 PM I just bought the Chrysler 6/75 extended warranty on my 2000 300M (35K miles).
I bought it over the net from a Chrysler dealer in Oklahoma called Melton Sales. If you're interested, email me at:
lflowers@bigfoot.com and I'll get the contact info for you.

ViolentWorld 11-09-2001, 02:26 PM I'm getting an extended warranty through www.extendedautowarrantycorp.com (http://www.extendedautowarrantycorp.com) for my 98. For 6 yrs, 125k odometer miles with 0 deductible, $1149. I had my mechanic check it out and a friend of his has dealt with them, and said they were good.

That's the way...uh-huh, uh-huh....I like it!!!!
ottowrkr 11-13-2001, 09:18 PM YEAH listen to CapitalCity RT ,get a 2002 .Keep me working LOL!! :D
rt_bob 11-14-2001, 03:31 PM There is a TSB on the cold engine growl problem. Check ALLDATA.COM and look up the Intrepid RT with 3.5. I had the problem. It is a timing belt adjustment. Dealer fixed it in one visit.
Don Hardy 11-15-2001, 02:13 AM Don't think it's the timing belt. It is the big old one piece "fan" belt tensioner I do believe.
wtowne68 11-15-2001, 04:36 PM So there is a fix for the "cold engine growl?" I saw nothing on the site about it. I'd like to get that taken care of too if it can be fixed.
capitalcity rt 11-19-2001, 11:17 PM Listen to this!!! Valencia California and Guam USA talkin about cold engine growl. What do these guys know about 'COLD ENGINE'.
Come to my home gentlemen and experience REAL COLD ENGINE. I growl at the cold...why shouldn't the engines? :D ;) :D ;)

Ottawa town in the top 3...coldest capital cities in the world. Yeah baby...I hate it too!!!
SPOOK R/T 11-20-2001, 04:54 PM The same here in the Twin Cities Minn. Down to 17 deg this morning. But my baby sits in the inside every night.
jsylvester100 11-21-2001, 12:09 AM The cold engine growl is common. The dealer supposidely did the TSB on it, but it sounded the same to me. I guess I'll let them try again when I get the differential serviced.
I bought a warranty shortly after I got the car from Warranty Gold. Researched them, didn't hear much bad about them. They also gave me $500 worth of free gas; bought a 7 year 100,000 mile "except for" warranty. If it was not listed, then it was covered.
Well, I didn't do it. I figured that the Canadians have their stuff together when it comes to building cars :) Just as long as this car holds up better than my wife's '94 Grand Cherokee (and it is, so far).
Danny,
The '01 R/T has a limiter on it? I have a '00 and have had the speedo wrapped without a hint of a limiter. I wouldn't mind getting a '02, but I hear they're pretty pricey (~31-32k list?) I paid 22k for my '00.
On to tires. I'm at 40k and they're almost down to the wear markers. What's a decent replacement? I don't feel like shelling out $178ea. for the Michelins at TireRack, but will if they're the best choice. Anyone else had to replace their tires yet?
Thanks in advance,
Chris
