Hi guys,
I just joined this forum tonight, as I have just recently,(almost a month), purchased a purple 1999 Chrysler Concorde LXi with the 3.2L V6 engine. It has a little over 57,000 + miles on it, so it should have plenty of life left.
My question is regarding the 3.2L engine. It seems that alot of people here regard it as being slower than even the 1'st generation 3.5L, which has slightly less HP and Torque. Why is this? Is it related to the smaller displacement, and/or transmission gearing?
It seems to have more than enough power for me, as far as everyday driving goes, and it really picks up speed in a hurry once you get it into passing gear.
It seems kind of fast to me, especially as my last car was a 1989 Buick Riviera with the 165 HP 3.8L V6, and it definitely didn't seem to have as quick response as this car does.
I was just wondering. I do really love this car, though. It has automatic climate control, Infinity sound system with cassette and CD, trip computer, remote keyless entry, and factory alarm.
I hope I haven't rambled too much.
I'm going to bed now. It's a little after 1 AM as I type this, and I have to go to work tomorrow.
Thanks for your help.:)

Welcome to the site. Can't answer that question for you, I think it is just a matter of opinion though. If you are happy with your car (and I believe you are) don't worry too much about that.

its the location of the torque...on the 3.5 its a little bit lower in the RPM range, so it hits its peak torque faster, giving it a better launch, then it holds its power a bit better all the way through

Welcome. You will probably get a tad better mileage with the 3.2 than the 3.5, and if it's quick enough for you, so be it! Enjoy all the goodies it came with. As you have discovered, it is a great road car and driving it is a ball!!
I'm sure you will find lots of great info on this site.

Hi again guys,
Thank you all for the welcome. I am pleased to meet you, and to enjoy these nice cars from Daimler Chrysler.
For me, the 3.2 is just fine, as it seems to have more than enough power for me. Especially when hitting passing gear from around 55 mph, and watching the speedometer climbing quickly on up to who knows what if I didn't watch it.
Compared to cars I have had, ('93 Corsica 140 HP 3.1 L V6, and '89 Riviera I have previously owned) this thing does seem rather fast.
Oh well, not that it really matters in the long run, I suppose. Just so I know I have plenty of power for passing other vehicles on the highway, including 18 wheelers, without running out of steam, I'll be fine.
These cars are incredibly roomy, with plenty of backseat room as well for comfortable long trips for people who ride in the backseat, and a big trunk as well. Plus the plenty of front seat room for the driver and front passenger.
I think it's going to be a great car.

the 3.2 hasn't really had any problems with it, and the car is very nice riding, even at 119 (i wouldnt know ) it feels like it is going about 75...they are nice cars indeed, and they will pass others with ease

I wasn't putting the 3.2 down, its a fantastic engine. Just the first gen 3.5 has a beefy low end powerband. The 3.2 will be king on the highway. Heck the 2.7 will take a first gen 3.5 on the highway.
Welcome aboard.

Yeah the 2.7L seems to have great HW mannors. I am very happy with my corde as far as that situation goes. Not on launch tho. Not good off the line at all. But it revs up quick to a good 5-5.5K so that helps alittle. But I wish I had the 3.2 or 3.5L would be nice. Later.

Hi again guys,
Well, I should be satisfied for a long time with this car. I would also expect pretty decent gas mileage probably. I can't wait to take my Concorde on a long trip sometime. I expect it will be a good cruiser.
One thing I really don't like on it is the fact that the battery is buried under the air filter assembly, and looks like it could be quite difficult to replace.
The previous owner though, had a new battery with a 5 year warranty put in, fairly new tires with about 7,000 miles on them, with a 45,000 mile warranty, I think, if I recall this correctly. Also new wiper blades so it should be all set to go.
The 3.2L should be all set for my needs. Also the previous owner had the A/C coil replaced on it. Would this be the evaporator coil, by chance?
I love these forums, by the way.:)
