2004 Concorde Cooling Fan Question
My cooling fans were not running so I replaced 2 blown 40amp fuses for the HI and LO fans.
The passenger side fan now runs and the A/C is working again.
What else can I check to find out why the drivers side fan is not running?
Thanks.

Which engine do you have? The fan circuitry is different depending on which engine. Also, have you checked the fuses again to see if one has blown again?

I have the 2.7L engine.
The fuses look good. Why?
Thanks...

With that engine, the fans are wired in parallel. If one fan is running and the other is not, that means that the controls (relays, etc.) are working properly. That fan that is not running either has a bad motor or there's a bad connection in the wiring going to it - most likely the former. When the fan motors go bad, they draw excess current and blow the fuses (maybe not right away, but evenutally).

Now it Just Dies
Peva,
I live in Las Vegas and the temperature has been going up to about 110 degrees. Yesterday, I was sitting at a stop sign with the air conditioner set at the half way mark. When I put my foot on the accelerator the car just died. I pushed the car over to the side of the road and had it towed home. I then tried to start the car about 30 minutes after the tow and it started right up. The trouble light came on but the next morning when I went to start the car the trouble was off.
Could the dead fan be killing the car; drawing to much current?
Should I pull the fuse on the dead fan until I get the fan replaced?
Thanks.

Fuse would blow before that would happen.

Blowing or removing a fuse would stop both fans from running. One fuse (Fuse E) runs both fans on low speed, the other (Fuse B) on high speed. Another fuse (Fuse 21) provides power to both relays.

Peva, sound like a short to you? Sounds potentially, like there is a short or bad ground blowing these fuses.

ive had this problem on my lhs also and unless both fans are working properly with the ac turned on the car will overheat esp if the outside temp is around 110 id keep the ac off till you get it fixed

I'm not sure - any one of several possibilities.

In conclusion, the car dying was caused by a bad Crankcase Position Sensor Connector which required a partial replacement of the wiring harness.
And once I had the fan assembly replaced the car no longer overheats!
Thanks to all.

Keeping in this groove of cooling fan issues.... all my fuses are good (the 40A's and the 10A inside) but the fans never come on. I don't drive in traffic much so overheating hasn't been a problem....yet! I may have to fix the pass. side fan - it doesn't spin too freely by hand - the drivers side one appears to be fine. Is there an easy way to cross out the fans' circuit and spin them up to see what's what? Is there a temp. switch which controls the fan (my temp gauge works fine)?
(Oh yeah: 2000 Concorde w/ 2.7 and the A/C needs recharging)

See schematics in FSM for where to provide power to run fans. There is one temperature switch read by the PCM. From its input, the PCM firmware controls the temperature gage and the cooling fans.
