Any suggestions for new tires on my '02 R/T
Hey folks - been a while...
Daddy needs new shoes again. Will be the third time replaced. Second time around I put the OEM's back on - Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 225/55 R17 V rated. Seriously considering doing them again as I've thoroughly loved them and have got 65k to 70k miles from each set - present odometer is at 132+k.
Damn things ain't cheap though - just a tad over $200 each. Should I consider something else?

I also have the original set of Michelins on my car now and think they are awesome. When the previous owner of my car bought the car from the dealership, he immediately had the stock Michelins switched for Goodyears because he worked for a Goodyear repair shop (makes sense...I'd probably do the same thing). But when he sold the car to me, he threw in the original tires which had been driven less than 100 miles or so. Now that they are back on the car, they are great. A have read a few posts about people criticizing these tires....but these are usually the same people who drive thier cars hard thinking these cars can be driven in the same way as a Viper! All in all, a great tire and would get them again. BUT....there are probably other tires out there that aren't quite as expensive that would do just as good a job too.
Cheers.

It depends on what you want to spend and what driving conditions you will be getting into. Do you plan on driving it year round or just in the summer?

I can't speak for all Intrepids, but I do know that between between 2000 and 2002, the stock tire from the factory on all R/T's were the Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 including the full size spare. I'm not sure if this is true for SXT's or other models.

well my 2000 r/t came with michelin mxv4's and no full size spare, just fyi....michelin doesn't make the mxv4's anylonger and the replacement sucks on consumer reports so I went with Firestone affinity's and am very happy....good snow, rain and general weather traction and wear....good grip and not too much road chatter....also didn't cost $225 a tire like the michelin's did...

I've seen and heard that before that not every car came with the full size spare. Maybe it was an option?? not sure.
I've also heard people say that Michelin doesn't make the MXM4's anymore, but depending on where you live, you can still get them through some Canadian Costco stores (check Costco.ca - they have them listed for $226.99 per tire) BUT, you might want to check the date code on the side of the tire to see when they were actually made. If Michelin did stop producing them, then these tires might be old stock...who knows.

Tire Rack (~$180) and my local Discount Tire Company (~$200) store still have these tires available. $70 mail-in rebate at DTC until the 26th of this month too. BTW - DTC is the ONLY place that I trust to balance these rims/tires as well - they have the top-of-the-line wheel balancers, and place weights using stick on weights onto the inside of the rim...

I replaced my Michellins last year with these.
General Altimax HP
I just couldn't justify the $$$ to put Michellins back on so I reasearched tires for a couple weeks. these tires got uber-strong reveiews on tirerack. and the price is almost half what it would cost for Michellins. I love mine so far.

Hey Dan - now this is the kind of review I've been looking for/wondering about! Ya just can't refute the reviews that others have given to this tire on TireRack! And half the price of the Michelin's!!!
How many miles have you put onto yours?
This will be a serious contender for sure!
