Starting Monday morning whenever i let the car sit overnight and went to start it in the morning for about the first 2 or 3 minutes of idling there has been this taping type sound. After about 2 or 3 minutes of sitting the sound would stop and go away. After checking the oil and seeing everything was fine, I drove on the highway for about 35 minutes then came home and the car sat for about 4 hours. I go out to start the car and now the oil light is on. Anyone know what this could be? Im thinking Oil pressure switch, but why would the motor be making a tap sound in the morning for about 2 minutes also ?

Short answer is because its a 3.5.

Long answer is because the valve lash adjusters arent sealing properly. Sludge, varnish, or a tiny metal shaving is preventing them from sealing. When the car sits, oil leaks out of the lash adjuster and the tapping sound is the valve hitting the head. It sounds bad, but it really isnt a problem, just annoying lol. There is a TSB out there, but I dont think anybody in LH world has bothered to get it fixed as it isnt perilous to the engine.

I have heard that using an Amsoil oil filter will stop the tapping. Only thing is its a $17 oil filter lol. Another thing you can do is try some Marvel Mystery Oil. I've used it back when I had my 2.7 and it does a nice job of quieting down valve noise.

Use mobile 1 synthetic. Good enought for the Viper and Corvette goode nought for me. Yes it costs more but its insurance. Been using it on my two cars and no problem. Well maybe this is not the answer you where looking for.

Ok heres one more question before i go out and buy the OPS

Wouldnt the light only flicker or come on when im idling if it was the oil pressure switch? Im starting to think it may be that the oil pump took a dump on me, and thats the reason why 2 days ago when i first started the car i was hearing tapping sounds for about 2 minutes when the engine was first started after sitting overnight

I do not think the pump took a dump-oil pumps either 1) work or 2) do not work they have no in between. I know that if my car sits for more than a couple of days the lifters will bleed out and cause one hell of a racket after i do start it( that last time it sat for a week when the family and I went on vacation-it sounded like a diesel and had a slight miss to it).
There is a TSB for this that replaces either the lash caps or the cam followers(right now I can not think of which it is). My money is on that, not the oil pump.
To rule out the pump I would connect a mechanical gauge and test the oil pressure-if ok
the pump is good. could have a bad oil pressure switch-a piece of crude could be stuck in it.
