Hi guys, I picked up a nice 2000 300m but the alarm system does not engage and no flickering red light on the dash. Anyone know where the control module is for this? maybe it's been unplugged?

It's built into the BCM, it's not a physical module that you can retract from the car.

Thanks for the tip. I suspected that. I can't imagine that the BCM is bad. Any other thoughts?

On my 300M's it is a module that plugs into the body contol module. It is on the outside of the module (easily seen) and should havea plug with wires comming out of it (antenna). If you manually lock the drivers door, do you get the red secutity light? Using the fob to lock the doors does it work? (at a distance or standing right next to the drivers door). To test it (have your key ready). Roll down the window and lock the door. open the door from the using the interior handle. the alarm should go off. Use the key in the car door to turn off the alarm. If the alarm went off the problem could be with the sun LED could be bad.

Actually, that is only the RKE module, nothing particularly to do with the VTSS, which is a function of the BCM. The only thing that the RKE tells the BCM is that the correct remote is used to unlock the doors, so as the deactivate the alarm system
The VTSS can be disengaged or enabled by using the DRBIII scan tool.
The major issue that occurs is when a "donor" BCM that is VTSS enabled is put in a car that does not have the sentry key and lock sensors. It can trigger the PCM into a non-start mode, as if the car is being stolen, until the correct key is either put in the ignition, or the system is disengaged.
