OD Lockup Not Staying Engaged
So I drove my Intrepid yesterday,
OD lockup doesn't seem to be staying engaged (pretty sure this describes the symptoms I'm having). Drives at 2300RPM on the highway, then jumps to 2500RPM, then back to 2300RPM. Does this every minute or so, car shudders a bit when it does it too. Decided not to drive the car again until I can figure this out. Any advice? Fluid flush & new ATF +4, or new high stall torque converter time?
Took it into the dealer for warranty work years ago for this exact problem (not as frequent). They told me it was 'normal' and I shouldn't worry about it.
I need to check the fluid level still, is there a right and wrong way to check the fluid? Should I be checking the colour as well?
Thanks,
Rob

Well since the car has been sitting, and you had a stain under it after a year of not driving it, did you think to check the fluid levels before driving it?

You might throw new input and out put speed sensors in there as well...mine was doing the same thing a year or so ago and the sensors cured the issue.

Yeah, I'm a dumbass for not checking the fluid level
I only know how to check oil level (unlike the guy who came into the muffler shop I was sitting in on Friday saying he had a flickering oil light for a week or two).

Did you tell him to just give it gas and it'll go away?

The shop checked his dipstick.........no oil. Then pulled the oil drain plug, literally got a handful of oil. Said he was lucky not to blow his engine. 2002ish riced out Nissan Sentra SE-R.

Check the level when its hot and the color should be a light clear red and not smell burned.

Sounds like it could be either the Torque Converter itself, or something to do with the TCC engagement.
I would get with Ross, and see if the DRBIII can pickup anything on a scan.

If you are in need of a new trans to rebuild for any reason, let me know. I have one in my garage right now sitting on my engine stand that has a brand new shift pack solenoid in it and new fluid. The torque converter was what was giving me issues, so i wouldn't use that, but the rest of it is in good shape.
Would be happy to let it go cheap to get it out of my way.
