If I may suggest one big thing for your crank, have the oil holes Chamfered! This drastically improve oiling for the bearings.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. If you look at the broken parts pictures, I suppose you could see how this would happen. Tip just broke off and mashed the tube against the rocker. Tore 'em both all to hell.
Chamfering the oil holes is already on the punch list. Hell, I didn't even wipe the journals off before I snapped the picture. A little die grinder action, a quick polish and you're done. The lifters though, there is no real wear pattern to speak of. The glory of roller lifters. If it was a flat tappet, it would be a different story. For the naysayers, this is the 3rd cam those lifters have been on, the different 3rd order and it's fixing to be the fourth. I say that because I had a kid straight of NADC try and tell me that I was going to wipe a lobe out on my already used Comp cam because I didn't get the lifters that the cam "was broken in on". Hated to tell him, "Hey brah, you don't break in a roller cam." He said you did. I was right. That cam has been in there for almost 20,000 miles with nary a problem. Except for this one. Not cam related.
And yes, the rods/pistons are numbered.

Erm, yes, I will be using all new pushrods. One piece hardened jobbers this time. See, when the valve hit the piston, it bent the valve and the push rod. Then, the rocker came off the valve, then everything started beating on everything else to include the valve cover. Made one hell of a racket.
Lastly, I think I am gonna hone it and put bearings in it. A guy at the impala forum said that new rings and honing would be worth about 20 hp. I dunno, but it's cheap insurance, and I already have a dingleberry hone. Now I gotta come up with enough scratch to get the other parts. The bearings will be under 50 bucks for the rods, mains and cam bearings, but the cheapest I've found the rings for is like 60 bucks plus shipping. Bastards. Damn GM and their metric bullshit. In like '92, they changed the ring package from 5/64, 5/64, 3/16 oil, to 2mm, 1.5mm and 4mm oil. Teh lose.
