What kind of driving do you mostly do??
If it is mostly city type driving, then go with a V6 for better gas mileage around town, but if you do a lot of highway driving, then go with the V8.
With the V8's ability to run on fewer cylinders it very likely gets similar mileage to the V6, but the extra horsepower would mean that the engine will not work as hard to propel the car.
If the engine isn't working as hard, then in theory that means less wear and tear, and longer life.

If it were me and I could swing the finances.....I'd get one with the 3.6. Especially for a daily driver. If you like to play and enjoy the sound/feel of acceleration when you put your right foot down....then an R/T with the 5.7. I own a Magnum SRT-8 so I'm biased a bit! However it's not my daily driver and sits in the garage for weeks at a time until it's time to play!
Like I said in the first sentence...if it were me and it was my Daily Driver/Only car...I'd try for the 3.6.
the 3.6 has 283 HP, not too shabby for a 6 and the 2012 has an 8 speed auto and gets 31mpg highway, way better than a Hemi, mind you, I like the Hemi as much as the next guy,but a V6 with the price of gas is the easy choice.
The 3.6L Pentastar with the 8 speed ZF automatic is probably the best compromise.
Decent power...almost as fast as the older Hemi.
LOW emissions and 31MPG highway
Extremely refined and well mannered (Very low noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). Lexus' 3.5 cant touch it in this regard!)
Should be extremely durable with an integrated oil cooler and external water pump. The valvetrain is chain driven yet its still quieter than the old 3.5.
The ZF 8 speed is a superior transmission to the Mercedes-Benz 5G-tronic (a.k.a Chrysler W5A580). The ZF 8 speed has other improvements in NVH over the W5A580 as well. Coming soon will be a high torque version for use with the 5.7 which I expect to get that car to 27MPG highway or so.
If you want speed, the 5.7 is the way to go unless the SRT you choose is one of the newer ones with MDS. I drive in a lot of stop and go traffic so MDS is something I consider to be a must have feature on a V8 engine.
If unmodified straight line speed isn't a concern, just go with the 3.6L Pentastar. For me, the perfect blend would be the 3.6 with an aftermarket turbo (they are in the works) with the SRT suspension. (my tastes in cars are weird...the sound of a multivalve 6 wound out is just as pleasing to me as a V8.)

My Trep is now gone. Good long life of hard work she put in for me, but with a salvaged title due to a massive hail storm back in 2010, and now the milkshake oil...it was time for a change. I went back to the same dealer that I bought my Trep from, new off the lot in 2002.
My purchase: 2011 Charger SXT+ w/ 26K miles, 3.6 292HP, 5-speed automatic, Certified Pre-Owned, Metallic Silver, black n tan interior pretty much fully loaded w/ 8.4 Uconnect Media Center w. 8.5 inch touchscreen, cd/dvd player, voice command, phone, heated/cool vented seats, heated mirrors, keyless start, remote start, keyless/passive entry, dual climate control, fold down back seats, Sirius Satellite Radio (Still FREE thx Dodge), Ipod input, dual 12V inputs (1 front cabin, 1 rear cabin), the nice aluminum alloy wheels, NEW Michelin tires, 1 owner CLEAN carfax, ummm....what else. My dealer added 3000 miles to the 36K BTB warranty, added 6 free oil changes and 2 tire rotations, plus still have 74K of the 100K E/DT warranty....
Not that any of the warranty stuff matters though. For $2500 bucks, paid over 18 months, INTEREST FREE, I bought the new Maximum Care LIFETIME warranty which covers EVERYTHING in the whole car for 100 years or 1 MILLION miles, over 5000 components are covered from defect, abuse, wear and tear,,,,anything....no questions asked. Blow the motor up, they put a new one in it....blow it up again, they put another one in it....I think you get my drift. I will be driving this car FOREVER....
Plus along with the warranty, I get Free towing, Free rental car during ANY type of service I have done to the car. I.E. Make an appointment for 1 of my free oil changes. I drop the car off and jump in another Charger for the day and come back and pick up my car next day.
Free $1000 dollars of travel coverage....for instance, if we are traveling, out in the middle of nowhere, and the car breaks down...Dodge will COME AND GET US with a Rental, Call the Tow Truck and PAY for us to stay in a hotel and eat meals until the car is fixed....
My cost $16,500 CASH and my nearly dead Trep. Nothing financed, I now own the car Free and Clear. Almost 5K UNDER KBB book value....Yep, I stole this one for sure.
I have been driving it for 3 days....the thing is A BEAST....I am truly IN LOVE with this machine...
So I guess this will be my last post on Intrepid.net! Is there a Charger.net out there somewhere??? hahaha...
The only thing the car does NOT have that I wanted was a rear spoiler and the moonroof...oh well no biggie....I will start hitting junk yards looking for a Silver Charger that took on a tree or pole or something and get a spoiler....
I don't know how to post pictures, otherwise I would show you all the car....She is so BEAUTIFUL inside and out....

congrats!! Post some pics! You wont find an '11 in a you pull it, but you can probably buy one from the LKQ parts desk. Sounds like a good deal... who is that warranty through, the dealer or chrysler, or some other 3rd party?

If anyone wants my 2002 Official Diamler/Chrysler Mopar Service Manual for the LHS, 300M, Concorde and Trep just LMK in an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. It covers EVERYTHING for both the 2.7 and 3.5 motors and ENG/DT's, cooling systems, and just about everything else. It's the great big blue book that they have at the dealership shops, with over 1000's pages....I paid $24 shipped for it and will simply ask the same price in return....not out to make any money, just help out another Treppie....

Nice looking Charger a good buy! I love my 2012 Challenger SXT. With 1,800 miles in her. And going 80+ mph or so on Hwy. And city stop and go driving. I am getting 25.2 Mpg. I also go the extended 5 year warranty on my car.
