I have been driving my car around for 6+ years with the fader to the back speakers only due to the blown door speakers. If I knew how easy it was to get to the speakers I would have changed them a long time ago.

So from all the research I have done it sounds like the door speakers are a 6.75 diameter 2 ohm speaker.

It looks like everthing I see is a 2-way 4 ohm speaker and most are 6.5.

I don't need the best sounding system in the world but do want to turn it up every once in a while and not blow the speakers. I suppose a decent 4ohm would cure that problem.

The cheapest I have seen speakers (6.5) is about $30 and the rest on up. I was hoping to find a sensitive 4ohm or better replacement 2ohm closer to $50 a pair.

Someone posted these in another thread. I don't see the ohms spec'd out for them.

I looked at the crutchfeild online and the punch speakers came highly recommended but cost $99.

Is the door speaker considered a componet speaker?
Is the door speaker just a 1 way speaker?
Any recomendations for a affordable speaker?

spoke with a Crutchfeild rep.

Learned a few things.

1. The door speaker is just a woofer and the way the system is designed it only recived bass frequencies. But they only sell two and three-way speakers so the the other speakers in the woofer are not used.
2. I narrowed down what they had by sensitivity. The Polk Audio DXi 650s and Kenwood KFC-1664S. The Polk is marine grade and would hold up better but the Kenwood has lighter woofer and would a little better plus its cheaper.
3. He explained when you put a 4 ohm speaker in and get less volume you tend to turn up the volume more and thus more likely to over drive the amp causing distortion and its distortion that causes the speakers to blow more then anything else.

still researching but since I may only keep this car for another couple years I'm leaning to the kenwoods at the moment.

I'd recommend getting a set of 2 ohm component speakers. I put a set of Phoenix Gold components in my R/T. It sounds like you don't want to spend a lot of money so components may not be in your budget. If that's the case just get a cheap set of two ways to put in the doors.

Well I ended up going to best buy who had The Polk Audio DXi 650s on display. I was able to listen to them and compare the difference between some $50 speakers. They did have much better base sound then the others. I could aso tell they had better sensetivity as well. They did have a smaller magnet then the original. The final descision was based more on the durrability then the cost. I won't have to worry if I leave the window down in the rain by accident and the higher output hopfully equates to less likely to blow them out.

I used the suggestion of one the other members here and used the old speaker as the mount for the new speaker. I also soldered the speaker leads to the original plug. A little angle grinder, a littel die grinding, drill some holes, a little soldering and ta-da speakers back in and done. I was really tempted to remove the capacitor and leads to the tweeter since not used anyway. I still may go back in and change that. What do you guys think?

Yes I would have like to get some 2ohm but just didn't find any that were affordable. I did see some 2ohm 6.5 woofers that I think I could have used but they were $50 each and no guarauntee they would fit.

Last thing that I realized was I have a center dash speaker that sounds blown as well. What is the storey with that? Is this another 6.75 speaker? I'm tempted to just disconnect it.

the center speaker is a little thing , maybe 2 inches,, ive replaced mine twice,, the sun kills the things,, try it with out one

Since I'm planning to crack open the front dash trim to fix the cliamate control can I get to it from there?
