I just got into my first accident ever. Re-ended someone thanks to sun glarr. I was wondering what is the black bar between the bumper and the radiator on a 1997 Dodge intrepid. All the damage was the hood end being pushed in slightly, still latches and the brackets for lights being broken. No chipped paint. I did notice though that the black bar behind the bumper was pushed in and had split half way or so, looks like it might have pushed in against the radiator about in the middle but did not see any leaks thought the smaller radiator like device that was against/inside of it did seem to be bent, has 2 pipes going in and one that comes out then bends back in like a U on the other end. What part is that?. Does it support the bumper and can I get it replaced? Could the bar be the front bumper reinforcement bar?

can't as I do not own a camera. I believe it was the bumper reinforcement bar that was cracked in two and the power steering fluid cooler. How long can I drive with it leaking? Do not own SAM. Depends on how bad the leak. You might investigate how the plumbing is routed, and see about removing the cooler from the circuit temporarily.

the black metal bar is the actual bumper, the plastic and foam is just a low speed impact "cushion" bumper cover.

It does not seem to be to bad. It leaked just enough to get the area of the bumper support wet that hit it and one side partially wet of the cooler itself, little on radiator but besides that not much. Still fluid in power steering box
