Rotella is a good oil, I use the none synthetic version for my flat lifters in the GTX, I could use synthetic as well but it's not worth it to me, I change the oil twice a year on this car and only put 3000-4000 miles on it.
On the drivers I still use what's on sale and change it at 3000, it's working for me on all my high mileage cars and I can do an oil change for around $16-$18
Honestly the only way to tell rather or not your oil, or oil additives are doing anything is with solid proof. Using any oil analyst company would help. Say for instance I use Mobil Clean5k 10w30. I use to do 4 qts of it with one qt of lucas oil stuff. Blackstone noted my wear was great, and my viscosity was little high due to the lucas. I also noticed that molybdenum, an anti-wear agent in oil was high. So for 4 oil changes I stopped using lucas. The last report showed a jump in bearing wear, nothing critical but also showed my moly levels almost flatline compared to the old readings. So I put lucas back in and once this oil run is done back to blackstone to see if the lucas is indeed helping with bearing wear.
I think I'll pass on the "Craptella" oil. Thanks for the responses though.
Rotella is not really meant for gasoline engines--although many still use it for gas burners. It is used very commonly in light to heavy duty diesels, and is formulated for diesels. It is the only oil we stock at work (heavy duty truck shop)....it is most definitely not "craptella" IMO. Some of the insanely complicated V8 Ford diesels use a lighter weight than 15w40...to keep them from exploding...LOL...
I used it in both dodge Rams, one for 100K miles, the other for 200+K miles, both engines were clean as a whistle inside. It is excellent at keeping the sulphur and soot deposits from the diesel fuel from sticking to the internals. The old red 93 dodge, now with 390K miles, is still kicking strong on Rotella, we've ran it since 1997 when we bought the truck---which is now my dad's.

As far as gas burners, I have always been a firm believer in Mobil 1 5w30, with a Mopar oil filter, used it since zero miles on my intrepid's engine, and it has had great results. No abnormal wear on oil analysis, and the engine has remained clean enough to eat off of inside. Like Devan says, go off of proven results.
The only gas burner I ran Rotella in was my old 85 F150, with the straight 6, it quieted it down a bit, raised the oil pressure.
