Speaker Whine
I know this is usually related to a poor ground, but I have it coming out of the rear speakers only. When this has happened, I have had the whine come from all speakers, so I'm lost. Any ideas? Also, is there a ground that is the usual culprit for the "whine"? I have already done the maintenance to the battery/strut grounds and the ones, by center console, are clean.

What audio system do you have in the car? Could be an internal failing of the amplifier - where just one of the amplifier banks has a bad ground, either in the headunit amplifier circuit, or in the external amplifier.

What he said. A lot of times the main ground that you installed or the factory installed can be good, but within a component of the system the ground can be going bad. Give us details on what you have in the car and we can help you troubleshoot.

It's the stock system; amp under dash. I have only replaced the speakers. I'll double check the whine, but it does seem to be coming from the rear speakers, or at least that is where I hear it and it is just not audible in the front.

What did you replace the speakers with? Are you the one that bought Ron's Infinity set?

Infinity References; components in the front, but only the woofer has been installed. In the months, to come, I'm planning to replace the head unit and amp, but in the meantime...no whine please.

They are 4 ohms.

Not the 2 ohm ones? You only have the base system, not the Infinity System in the car now, right?
With your fronts - the way you have them hooked up, are you maintaining the 4 ohm load, or since you don't have all the components in, do you have some other rated load?

After looking at the paperwork, the fronts are 2.3 and the rears are 2.65. I "thought" they were 4, but was wrong. Sails are still the original speakers. I have the system with the amp on the passenger side. I haven't hooked the full components, because I was waiting until the new H/U and amp and have read it was pointless with the factory amp.

You going to aftermarket HU and amp, or another factory set up?
The difference in impedance may be where your whine is coming from - can't be sure, but I'd swap back in your old speakers and see if it comes back if you are worried about it. The lower impedance will allow a little whine in the amplifier to become a louder whine.

Original speakers were blown; literally no sound was coming from them. Isn't the factory setup 2 ohms?

I wouldn't worry about speakers being the issue here. There really shouldn't be any whine to begin with, so focus on eliminating that. You can bypass the amp and run straight off the HU and see what happens. If the whine goes away, it's the amp. If not, the amp is eliminated as a possibility.
Do you still have the factory HU? If you do you can try swapping that in temporarily to test if it's the HU.

If you are going with aftermarket, I wouldn't fret with anything at this point.
Turn your volume down, and install your new head unit.
The factory systems are 4 ohm except on the Infinity systems.

Factory. I'll look into bypassing the amp, I just wasn't sure if there was a ground that usually causes this.

Who drives with low volume? I think I can only hear the whine with the radio off, but I'll get back to you on that. I have the Infinity system (7 speakers); 2 sails (putting component tweets here today..maybe), 1 center (blown so removed), 2 front doors (replaced), 2 rear deck (replaced).
