My girl has a 99 dodge intrepid with blown speakers. I'm wanting to change them out for some boss chaos speakers. Anyone have any experience doing this to a intrepid, also does anyone know the speaker sizes? So I don't have to pull everything apart to just see speaker sizes

Does the car have a factory Amp? (Would be in the passenger side front foot well, under the kick plate. I would recommend you run away screaming from Boss audio products.

6.5" with adapter rings in the front, or some 6.75" I believe. 6x9 in the rear, you may have to drill some new holes for mounting.

I have had great luck with them and they always sound good.

Also I am unsure if it has a factory amp... It's got factory tweeters that say infinity on it...

You should have an amp in the kickplate then. you need to stick to 2OHM components then. And... I guess, if you like cheap sound... then that's your preference

You shouldn't even look at 2 ohm speakers! The amp has an EQ circuit that tailors the output to the quirks of the Infinity drivers. It ALWAYS sounds odd to me with aftermarket speakers....and the EQ is why.

You should look at bypassing that amp if you want new speakers. And yeah....you can do better than Boss. Get on a website like woofersetc or sonicelectronix and see what you can buy for not a lot.

You don't need more than 40-60W RMS for your main speakers. Don't go too hog wild on the amp....very few 6-7" drivers will tolerate over 60W without encountering suspension limits. (ie, it might not smoke, but you might tear the suspension or cone. It will sound horrible in any case at those levels)

I'm not going to argue with the first part because I'm a big proponent of aftermarket sound anyways, but I don't know of anyone else that has supported that position before. It's a reasonable possibility though.

I definitely agree about checking out woofersetc and sonicelectronix. You can get some great deals if you dig around.

The last part I have plenty of issue with. My JL components ran on 100W rms for 8 years and were still playing just fine when I pulled them recently for an upgrade. My current 6" drivers are running on 200W rms each and sound amazing. Those drivers are really high end stuff, but still the point that there is some sort of limit for most drivers doesn't sit with me. Follow manufacturer specs on power ratings within a reasonable range and set the gains on the amp correctly. With doing that I've never seen someone ruin their speakers or make them sound horrible just because they had more than 60W.

Now if you wanted to say that for decent cheap sound 40-60W is a good range to shoot for that would be a different discussion which would come down to preference really.
