Hi i Have a 3.5 liter 96 intrepid. Has 155xxx miles and recently stopped wanting to start in the cold weather like 10-30 degrees after sitting for more than a few hours. turns over and "coughs" like it wants to start but wont actually start unless i give it gas for about 2-3 minutes and shuts off if i take my foot off the gas before that. once it gets going it runs fine. i do know i have an issue with my EGR valve leaking because i can hear it and recently got a code that went away don't know if that could be a cause. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be??

You can hear the egr valve leaking? what's leaking? the vacuum line that operates it? How does it idle when it gets going? What RPMs? There are a few things that could cause that. Have you done any maintenance on it at all?

I had that same problem on my '95 Eagle Tsi 3.5 when I had mistakenly used Bosch platinum spark plugs instead of the OEM Champion Coppers. This car works best with the original plugs.

Thats what I was thinking, not getting a good spray pattern, need injectors or a very good cleaning.

i did smell gas from the exuaust pipe like a lawn mower and had a ecm failure code and multiple misfire code. i just had the spark plugs and wires changed got bosch coppers and seems to run fine now

and i believe the actual EGR is leaking air because i looked at at and can hear that hissing sound like a vacuum leak its not the hose i don't believe

Not likely since you would have gotten a trouble code by now.

well i did get a code for the EGR but it went away but the problem still persists

Bosch Coppers?! You were supposed to get Champion! I know that mine was the biggest PITA to start in the cold with Bosch platinums, and then we changed to Champion Coppers and haven't had a problem since.
