Wonder if the OP ever got his problem solved. This happened to me last year, also threw a bad cam position sensor code which didn't go away with a new sensor. As it turned out, the timing belt was missing teeth. I replaced it and the car fired up right way, and I haven't had that problem since. (Thought about doing the water pump while I was in there, didn't, and had to do all this over again to replace it a couple of weeks ago. Don't worry, my ass is still sore from me kicking it for that.)
