I was trying to read back and get a re-familiarization with this thread.
Have you checked the ABS controller plug? If you uncork the plug you might be seeing moisture in the connector. I remember back a few months when Dan had some issues with his car. Different generations I think but, water is bad if it is in the connector.
If you had a DRBIII with a 1st gen supercard, you could read each sensor on the data display by raising the car and spinning each wheel. Hand speed can yield 3 - 7 mph.
I am also not sure what the original set of circumstances was when the car took it's first dive or two. Did you have some other kind of work done just prior to the first event?

No work was done. The only difference before the first event was that it was driven in very dusty conditions, with high heat/humidity.
And what is a DRB III / 1st Gen SuperCard??

I've been thinking about this problem for a while. I wonder if it's a wire splice issue some where in the ABS circuit? The fact that is happened when the car went over a bump and the brake pedal isn't being pushed.
Just thought of another thing. I'd check for broken ABS sensor wires on the front wheels where the wires flex when the steering wheel is turned or the suspension goes up and down. But, rethinking this, this would probably turn on the ABS light and set a code.

Ker-BUMP!!!!!
According to a recent check, the brake pads are really in need of replacement, in fact they are so bad that it's not going ANYWHERE until they are replaced. (87208mi on the ORIGINAL FACTORY PADS!!!!!!! )
Houston I think we found the problem.

Not really. Low Pads will not cause ABS issues on your car unless something else is wrong.

I totally agree with this! All that worn pads will do will cause poor stopping and put an unwanted surface on your rotor!

I got it on the hoist at work and looked at, turns out I needed rear pads and I had ignored them for so long I had to replace the passenger side caliper and rotor.
So as a thought, check the condition of all the brakes visually and see if a rotor or drum or pad or shoe has maybe worn right down and is no longer doing its job properly. I have seen brand new pads have a fault and lose their pad material due to a defect so that could be what has happened.. doesn't explain why the pump can be heard at other times tho...

Is this a 4 wheel disk or does it have drum brakes in the rear?
If it has drum brakes they probably need replacement too. Often as the rear brakes get warn, the adjustment doesn't adjust anymore and space develops in between the rear shoes and the drum. This slack causes there to be more brake pedal travel (pedal goes farther down before the brakes start working).

I kinda wonder if this is actually abs. If your pads are that bad, it's possible that the calipers have been neglected for a long time. The slides might be binding or you might have bad flexible hoses. Hitting a bump might cause loose components to shift and wedge so the wheel locks up. Bad flexible lines will allow pressurized brake fluid into the caliper but won't allow normal backflow which will cause the pad to drag and who knows what could happen after it heats up.
Also, have you checked the condition of your wheel bearings and CV joints?

All is getting looked at when the brakes get fixed soon. (Along with the A/C, but that's a separate thing.)

I believe his car does have ABS because he talks about his dad not letting him remove the fuse.

Traction Control is associated with ABS. Now if only I could get a picture of the ABS light.

No, I mean, I'm wondering if *the problem* isn't ABS related. Not whether or not his car has ABS - I'm sure it does. What I do wonder about are the things I mentioned, neglected calipers, slack components jamming, bad flex lines, possibly bad wheel bearings or CV joints, etc. After all has been done, I think it wouldn't hurt to get back to basics and check associated mechanical stuff since it doesn't seem plausible that the ABS system is just kicking in and locking up a wheel when neither power nor braking are applied. I could, however, see lots of other things locking up that wheel not in the ABS system.
