Greetings eveyone. Just joined this forum and have found it extremely helpful getting my Concorde back in order. Thanks to all contributors.

Now for the latest. I was getting an 0404 code for a while and finally decided to replace the EGR. By all accounts it wasn't too bad of a job. All passageways were clear. Now that the new EGR is installed, check engine light is coming on with an 0401code that the manual describes as "EGR Failure". Could this be a bad EGR or poor electrical connection? Sound familiar to anyone?

The P0404 is generally a DTC related to the electrical side of the EGR system. i.e. if you have a P0404 you likely have an issue with the sensor that reads the position of the EGR valve.

So, after reading the details of your repair, it looks like the EGR system has now a good working position switch which is telling the PCM that there is no EGR effect when the system requests it.

I see you noted the passages were clear but, while the EGR was off, was there any checking done to the source of the EGR tap? I am assuming this is a 2.7L with the tap on the right exhaust manifold. If the manifold is clogged with soot then the EGR P0401 will set.

Thank you for responding. That makes sense. Yes, the motor is the 2.7. The passages were clean where they attached to the egr, little to no sludge. I did not remove the opposite side of the tube where it attaches to the top of the exhaust manifold. The miles are a low 80k for a '99, So the internals are pretty clean and well maintained. Also, as i was removing the EGR connection, the plug did crack, but I did check the connection and it was tight. I also zip-tied it to secure it. Wasn't sure if the connection could be a factor, although you mentioned that it's now getting an 0402 is perhaps because its now receiving a signal. I could check inspect the opposite passage if you think their could be blockage? If that's clear, then what? I appreciate your feedback.
