Im looking for a wintertire because even with my superiour winterdriving skill from cold harsh swedish conditions I prefer a fresh molded wintertire for that extra gripp :icon_bigg rather than being one of the sucky folks in a suv resting 2 meter up on a concreatwall among the rest 20+ roadaccidents Iw seen the past weeks here in Toronto.

The question is rather than installing the somewhat fatty and more costly 225/60R15 size, id prefer a thiner tire for two main reasons: Better grip and less costs. Would, like an 195/60R15 fit well or is there other things to keep in mind?

What model of Intrepid you got? 15's will NOT fit on my Intrepid.

I highly doubt that 15" wheels would fit on your car cause I don't think there would be enough clearance for your brake calipers. But even if it did, 195/60/15 would affect your speedometer a bit since you are going to a smaller wheel and a smaller tire sidewall, you'll doubly affect your speedo accuracy.

Remember the "60" in 225/60/16 represents how tall the sidewall in percentage terms. As in, 225/60/16 means that your sidewall will be 60% of 225 mm which is equal to 135 mm tall. 195/60/15 means that you sidewall will only be 60% of 195 which equals only 117 mm tall. Add to that the fact that your wheel diameter is smaller than an inch, you are then going to be a total of 1 inch and 36 mm smaller in overall diameter, thus affecting the rotational speed in relationship to linear speed.

I ran 215/60/16s last winter and I thought they were too small. I just put 225/60/16s on for this winter and they feel much better.

same as the bus, 225-60-16's on steelies, have a nice feel to them, i was actually supprised at the ride.

I'm running Dunlop Graspics DS2 on my stock rims (225/55R17). I used them last year as well. They certainly aren't summer tires (which my spirited driving craves), but when the snow hits the pavement, the Dunlops are awesome. Last year was the first year I ever used a dedicated winter tire (grew up in lake effect snow country so I like to think my winter driving skills are better than average ). I should have used a dedicated winter tire long ago.

As for using 15" rims, they won't fit around the caliper on your car.

ok, thanks. With your help I did som research and found Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 with radial 205/65QR16 they are only 3.9mm shorter in the total height than 225/60R16. They wont win any beuty contest unless you have a thing for brutal look. But they do get alot of good words and they are priced good. Just what im looking for.
