Looking to buy a remote starter for my son's intrepid. I see all kinds of different equipment but only want what I need. Can someone recommend a product I can buy that does not require me to purchase multiple items? One that works.

Any comments welcome.

Prestige 997 was $300 installed at my local shop. It has a great range, 2 way remote, and it's also an alarm system. Add $200 to get the Viper equivalent. There was A LOT of wiring to do. If you're not comfortable splicing into your harness all over the place and running the proper wires (and are not okay with the risks of messing something up) I'd recommend having it installed.

Shop around.. I got a compu-star put into my gf's car for $225 installed.. basic 1 button..

I am not interested in spending hours doing wireing and such. I thought there were some packages available that were around 100 bucks and easy install. Maybe I am mislead.

You can get a basic remote start for 50 bucks - but it is the interface to your car that is the issue - especially if you have security.

I had an Avital alarm with remote start put in in January....by a guy who's been doing installs for years....took him 6 hours.....he said he'd never do another intrepid ever again...he had to go get capacitors and there was quite alot of cussing! Ha! Only cost $280 though.....so win for me!

There is a plug in harness kit available for the Intrepid at least, so that helps.

Yup, you would need the immobiliser bypass module though, or the 'quick and dirty' way is to get a SKIM key that's programmed for your car, cut the blade off or remove the transponder chip from the head of the key and glue it inside the ignition cover next to the SKIM pickup coil.

The downside of the 'quick and dirty' method is you would lose the memory functions of seat etc since the active transponder wouldn't change with regards the SKIM unit.
