.
SKIM is a security feature. It consists of a chipped key, a module that checks for that key and the programming in the PCM. All 300m Specials came with SKIM. Getting a Special PCM without the keys or SKIM module is worthless. If you try to start a SKIM equipped car without the matched/programmed key...the engine will only run for 5-10 seconds and then shut off. After 5 attempts like this...the SKIM will lock out the starter and you wouldn't be able to start the car period. At that time the PCM is bricked and you'll need another PCM.
The PCM being bricked is not true, you need to power down the PCM by leaving the car in the run position for about an hour and then the SKIM module then needs to be reprogramed with the SKIM number for the car. Then the car will run like nothing ever happened.

Soooooo, what your saying is if i get a PCM from a 300M Special, i WONT need the SKIM? And i can just leave the key on, drain the car dead and reprogram the SKIM to my key with the PCM from the 300M ? If so IM IN! Now is the programming have to be done by the dealer?

I just was at a yard in London earlier this week......pulled the PCM, SKIM and key from an '02 special......took it to the counter and the guy wanted $100 for the PCM. I left it as I don't think there's much of a market anymore (and I don't personally need it because it won't work on my '99 LHS).
You can also just tape the donor key to the SKIM and run the vehicle like you don't even have a SKIM, just keep using your regular key.
Also pulled the 240km/h speedo from this '02 Special and threw it into my LHS (getting bored of the Concorde autostick enabled cluster I have in there). Also pulled an RKE module and fob from a '00 M and installed into the LHS. RKE works like a dream now......worked like crap ever since I bought the car (and no, it wasn't because of a dead battery in the fob or a dead fob).

Make sure it's an '02 Special.......they tamed the programming down in '03 and '04 because of complaints from old people who bought the car and didn't like the quick shifts.

??? No. I don't think the intent is to drain the battery if that's what you're meaning. I think leaving it powered up for an hour is part of the process of restoring it to useability. If you think that's going to drain the battery, put a charger on it during that time, but shouldn't be necessary (draining a battery is bad for the life of the battery).
