About all you can do is spray them real good/hard, and then let them dry before applying the dielectric grease.

The fact that he's not getting a "no bus" message leads me to believe in this case that it just may be the cluster. If it were a problem of the bus being loaded/shorted to the point of causing these symtpoms, I would definitely expect the "no bus" message.

I didn't; my odometer would stop at whatever mileage it was at when the gauges stopped working and stay at that mileage until the gauges came back on. Judging from my car's symptoms, I think my PCM was losing its bus connection, but everything else was still communicating. When my tach/speedo/temp gauge would drop out, I could still adjust the climate control (bus communication between ATC head and BCM), and the PRNDL and autostick still worked (bus communication between BCM and TCM). Also, when my headlights were on and I adjusted the dimmer control, the displays on the EVIC and radio would get brighter and dimmer (bus communication between BCM and radio/EVIC). You have to look at what components stop working, and which electronic module those components all have in common.

It is located right next to the fusebox, but you will need to look under the dash to see it.

I think it's the "smooth" part on the left of the relays.

BCM is underneath the junction block in that picture and isn't shown. The white section the relays are plugged into in that picture is the Junction Block. You can see a small slice of the BCM to the left in that picture. The white connector you see in that area is the connector for the RKE antenna. The RKE module clips to the BCM. Refer to the figure below for reference on that.
This might help. The middle right figure shows a BCM attached to the Junction Block. The BCM is black in color.

OK - it must be a light short - the bus is just crippled, not a dead short. Since you have definitely seen that situation, I defer to you on that.
Mikale - Good job on getting the TCM and PCM for such a good price. It may take a few tries, but you will get it fixed. Would be cool if it is the TCM and you fix it on the first try - you never know.
