apperently the oxygen sensor in my 02 intrepid has pooped out. i was told it was the exaust one. suppose to be easy to change. anyone know where i can get a newsensor inexpensivly and can anyone post a pic of exactly where this sensor is?? it would be super appreciated. and do i need a special socket?? i watched a video of a guychanging a sensor on an 02 neon and he just cut the cable, used a long round ended wrench and removed it. then he unplugged the other end of the sensor. put the new sensor in using an open ended wrench then connecter the cable to the old one. he said something about it not being sealed by,oh crap i cant rememeber and it was important. i had to have one that wasthis way or had to do this to one for protection. can you over tighten the sensor and wreck it?? looks like im doing this myself and the more info i have the better. did manage to change my own clock spring this past thursday all by myself, kinda proud and it works. no airbag light and i have a horn again. im rambling. anyhw i appreciate any picturs an input for this job. thanks again. glad i found you!!

There are 4 of them. You need to pull the codes to find out which one it is. To do this turn the key on, off, on, off and then leave on. Do not start the car when doing this. The codes will display on the odometer. You can find the sensor socket at harbor frieght or borrow it from most parts stores.

Folks on here do not recommend an aftermarket sensor as they do not work well with our cars. You can get a used one pretty cheap from a junkyard or get an oem one.

Two on the driver side (left) and two on the passenger (right) side.
One before the cat (pre-cat) and one after the cat (post-cat).

The pre-cat sensors are easy to see.
One is under the AC compressor. The other is under the Alternator.

The post-cat sensors are harder to see and get to;
just follow the exhaust pipe down and you'll find them on either side of the tranny.

Most of the time the code will be 420 and/or 432.
These two codes relate to the post-cat sensors (which sounds like your issue).
My bet is that you will have one or both of these codes.

and select "Dodge Intrepid Second Generation Forums",
you can read up on all the different things people have learned over the years.

A couple things come to mind:
..Never change just one sensor. Change them in pairs, buying one pre-cat and one post-cat.
..Instead of changing a pair of sensors, use the non fouler trick on the post-cat sensor.
..(I am looking into installling non foulers on my current ride; 03 SXT)
