Hi
Hi I'm Sam, owner of a 2001 Chrysler Intrepid SE (2.7L engine). This site is very helpful to me when I need to do minor repairs and maintenance with minimal resources. I bought this car 4 years ago with 93,000 miles and I had no idea about the sludge problem in this engine. Today I have 130,000+ miles, and I credit it to running full synthetic oil for most of the time I've owned it. Less than a month after I bought it, the water pump failed and messed up the engine pretty badly, but luckily I had a warranty and the cost for replacement and engine clean-up was only about $400. It was then that I determined to start learning as much as I could about this car, and due in large part to the information on this site and the input from other owners, I have been able to learn how to do a lot of basic repairs and maintenance myself, which has saved me lots of money. I'm very grateful this site exists, and that other owners are willing to share their knowledge here.

Well, welcome Samuel! Great to have you aboard. Before long, you'll be one of the members helping the next guy or gal.
Watch out for the mod bug... I'm sure you've seen the effect of it's bite of you have looked around much on the board.
Can't wait to see pics of your car.
Congrats on the cheap engine change and running full synthetic.

The Mod Bug?
Oh, wait, must be the one that kept biting me every time I looked at my tan dash with the black steering wheel and black console top, (While the sides were tan).
Finally got around to swapping black carpet and seats into it. Now the interior looks a little more balanced with the black and tan everywhere. Not just on the dash.
Glad to have you aboard Sam!

There was a time when I was interested in getting a functional hood scoop, and I used to have a high-flow Green air filter in it, but that was as close as I ever came to making any modifications.
I live in western New York state, so I used to try to keep up with the rust, but it's a losing battle I've given up on. Rust Reformer only goes so far, I'm afraid.
Now I'm back to a paper air filter, and I've switched from Mobil-1 high mileage synthetic to the cheaper Walmart Supertech. I still love my car, but I've realized that passing inspection every year is more important to me than how it looks. It's got lots of scratches, dents, and spray paint on it, and the front of the hood is a little crumpled from a fender-bender my wife was in last year (the hood still opens and latches shut so I'm not worried about it).
Maybe if it was a bit newer and I had a little more change in my pocket, I'd do some stuff to it, but as it is now, I'm happy if it gets me from point A to point B.

That's the most important thing, I guess.
Hopefully we can help you keep it on the road a little longer.
