hey guys, i was wondering, i have a 94 concorde with a spun bearing, if i try to replace the bearing, is it possible to buy oversized bearings for the 3.5l ? my dad said it might need them cause of the clearenence in the motor after the bearing spun. It hasnt run long with the spun bearing, but newayz , i was wondering i bought them for my SHO taurus and i was wondering if anyone knew if they were available for the 3.5 L
I second what Veeb0rg says -- pull the crankshaft and have it re-ground, then put new bearings in it. Whether or not you need oversize bearings will depend on how much metal the machine shop has to remove from the crankshaft to clean it up.
You could always just put a used motor in it, or buy a new crankshaft kit with bearings. I would check into the condition of the rest of the engine for doing anything, like mentioned it may need a complete rebuild.
I third the comment of pulling for a rebuild... I did my top end rebuild in the car, and layed on the ground for a few hours to change JUST the bearings... I wasted the money on Rod Bearings, Main Bearings, Oil Pan Gasket, and pre-lube, along with my back and two nights laying in a gravel driveway trying to cheat my way out of it... and I didn't even have a fully spun bearing! Mine was just knocking!
Save yourself the time and trouble... Pull the motor (very easy pull) and at minimum put a crank kit in it or have your crank serviced WITH BEARINGS. May as well do a few more things to it (oil pump comes to mind) while you've got it out... It will be a great learning experience!
Damn! If would have known I would have bought it from you. Oh well. RIP Concorde.
you wouldnt have wanted it , it was basically stripped for spare parts for the intrepid, alot of the parts were used for the intrepid to replace things it needed for saftey inspection, and honselty when i got it , it wasnt bad, when it went bye bye, it was a sad sight, paint peeling off, interior ripped to shambles, top end ripped off the 3.5L , no lower balljoints in it, shitty tires put on it ,trunk held down with bungy cords, hood creased from when the wind caught the hood after i ripped the good air shocks off it and smashed the windhseild,
but hey , paid 75 bucks for the car with a knocking engine, used its parts to put the intrepid on the road, have boxes of spare parts now, and the scrap guy gave me 250 for it ,
she was a organ donor for my intrepid, RIP concorde
she gave her life to let a 93 ES intrepid live.
