Successful (different) engine swap?
There have been several threads discussing engine swaps for our 2nd Gens, but they all seem to be "what do I need to swap my engine." I can't seem to recall any "I just swapped my engine" threads.
Has anyone here successfully swapped a different sized engine into their 'Trep?
(I ask because I have a 2.7 with a rod knock. A used 2.7 in this area runs around $2500... a used 3.5 runs $1300... If I can get a 3.5 and all the necessary parts for $2500, it's a no-brainer. I don't, however, want to be the first guy to do it, and end up with a $5000 repair bill because of unforseen difficulties.)

I just swapped a 426 Hemi into my R/T last week. All I needed was an engine mount kit... KIDDING!
I don't recall any "I just swapped my engine" threads either. Have you tried the search function?
Good luck!

Because of the modular ways these cars are built its rather easy to do an engine swap from 2.7-3.5 or 3.2.
There was a car on e-bay that had the 2.7 swaped out for a 3.2. The sweet thing about that swap is you keep the 2.7's higher gear ratio (effectively giving you 'free' prowler pro gears). The only thing i don't know about is will the 2.7's torque converter be okay to use with the 3.5.

Just wondering...
Why would the 2.7 be going for more than the 3.2??

No, the real reason is just because the 3.2s are better

I do recall a first gen Trep back-halved and set up with a small block and rear-wheel drive on Ebay. So, I guess it has been done before. These cars are kind of cheap to buy so maybe in the future more people will do it. If you have access to the tools and cheap parts I can see it happening.
