I have a big important question. I need to replace the shift solenoid so I took the trans pan off the took the filter off, and now im trying to drop the next levelm because i was told that thats where the solenoid is.... Am I going in the right direction? the car is a 2000 intrepid
Dont forget to move the shifter all the way right..or was it all the way left. I got up there with a shorty set of vise grips. Which direction to go should be in the manual. This will park the parking sprag before the valvebody comes out. careful with the pistons, they will fall out.
thank you very much for the manual!!! also I had the same problem with the shifter I did it 'clockwise" like i read somewhere but It didnt not come out so i have to push it back in and turn it the other way!!!
I finally got everything out, I have never had to deal with so many stripped screws but I finally have teh solenoid all the way out and just waiting to pick the part tomorrow from the autozone store for 185, was that a lot? or does it seem like a good price?
so I think im done with replacing the solenoid but now im stuck ina couple of spots... the pistons with the springs are they supposed to go upside down or does the pistons go upside down into their chamber (springs first) or the head of the piston first... I mean I put them with the head going in into the chamber first... Now I put the bolts back in but when i went to put the shift cable bushing into the shaft now it doesnt go and i cant seem to get the cable to go in there. Did I screw the rotation of the shaft or is there a specific way to have the little lever inside the valve the one that engages the mechanism inside. sorry for my terminology but its the first time i get into fixing a car.... Please Im trying to get this done any help will be appreciated. one more thing my code was 0750 but here i saw the all of you ended up changing this solenoid, is there another solenoid i need to be worried about?
Top of piston goes in the top on transmission followed by the two springs. I usually hold both of them up in the holes then push up the vb in till it hits my hand and then just slide my hand out and then get at least one screw in and it should hold it up for you to get the rest of the screws. The shift cable only fits one way. Just keep moving the selector rod one click at a time untill it fits. There should be 7 clicks total (P R N D 1 2 P) to try. If that does not work then you may have simply move the swivel on the cable to the other side then try the 7 clicks again. Its a PITA because of the clearance. The hardest thing for me was that green wire connection, i could not get the leverage to snap it in. That not a bad price if its new and not rebuilt. Rebuilt ones go for 60-80 dollar range. I would go new for this piece anyway. I got mine at the dealer for 242 with a 20% discount so like 208 and change. For aftermarket, I would get the Wells one, or borg wagner , actually i think Borg Wagner does have one for this trans. but anyways, Good luck! ps, this might not be the best advise, but the manual calls for "quick learn" procedure to be done at the dealer after the replacement is done. Instead of giving them more of my money I just unplugged the battery for a mins and this will clear the memory. The shifts might be little rough at first but the trans will learn the way you drive and even out.
OK so i finally got the valve back on and everything really came back as it was before i dissasembled it.
then I added the transmission fluid and did everything i was told to do, to my surprise the code came back on, even tho I used the code reader to erase it and as soon as i started to drive the light came back on, showing the same codes again,,, Does anybody know what is shift solenoid a malfunction, bc I just did the whole shift solenoid and nothing changed... any suggestions on where this is located or anything will help, thank you very much.
So was this fixed? im having the same problem. Car throws 750, i changed the solenoid pack to a brand new one, changed input/output sensors and used atf+4... first drive out back into limp mode with p750
Sorry man The same thing happened to me, as soon as I was done, I put everything back and as soon as I drive back like 20 yards down the same code came back again. I've been researching and it looks like there is a spring there on the transmission that I didnt looked at, not on the valve body but up in the car. hopefully this link will help, please look at it and let me know what do you think maybe is something we need to do, bc it says that thats the L/R solenoid, Im not a car savy but im trying and myabe this is the solution? http://www.dodgeintrepid.net/manuals/02lhe/02lhe.pdf page 1283 or look at the transaxle part!!!
not sure if this pertains to either of your issues, but there is a TSB out there that call for either 'noids or a complete rebuilt valve body to fix 'noid pack issues. It has to do with actual valve body build dates dictating which one you need to do to your tranny
the reason is that there are some part incompatibilities between years

let me know what do u think
ill check it out... im about to just take it to the tranny shop. I did the solenoid change and everything went back in just as came out.. i think its electrical. So i have been tracing out splices and looking at harness...
my symptoms are
20-30 mph heavy hesitation, studdering
40-20 mph bump shifts
sometimes on freeway it juts pops into limp mode
when coming to stop it shudders and wants to die sometimes
only code that comes up is p0750 took to tranny shop, they said it was solenoid pack
i have replaced with NEW solenoid pack, input and output sensor... still same thing..
also swapped in a good working 2000 tcm.. still same crap
