so i've been workin on my car alot lately, and have spent a lot of time under the car. when i changed the oil i wiped down the oil pan and everywhere else i saw oil. the bolts in the bottom of the oil pan were pretty loose so i tightened them and the valve stem cover bolts were loose up on the top of the engine so i tightened all of them. the car is still leaking oil (a small amount) and i dunno from where. i went back under the car a couple nights ago and the whole oil pan had a light coat of oil all over it, i've tried back trackin the leak to see where its comin from and i just cant. it seems to be higher than the oil pan gasket...but its goin thru maybe 1/3 quart of oil every 3 to 4 weeks. since ive become a member to this site i realize there are some very knowledgable people when it comes to intrepids so i was hopin someone could tell me if they know of common leak points on the 96 -- 3.3L engine. btw...i got 98000 miles.
and i've gotta change the upstream o2 sensors 2night when the engine cools down a little more, so ill snap some pictures while im at it to post.basically the engine is stock...all i've added is a SCEPTOR cool air intake (that dont take in too cool of air).
Hey guys, can you change the front main on the 3.3 without dropping the crank?
It can be done with the timing cover still on the car, and if you can get it off thats the quick way. If you cannot remove the seal with the timing cover still on then you will have to drain the coolant, drop the oil pan a couple inches(might as well drain the oil out), pull the accessories, and finally pull off the timing cover. The good news is that you will be able to see the condition inside the engine and replace the timing chain if it needs it. The bad news is that its a helluva lot more parts to pull off. Moral is, if you can get the seal out without pulling the cover, thats the way to go. No crank dropping required either way.
