I changed my oil a week ago and it has been about 100 miles since, but I switch from 10w-40 to 5w-30 for the cold here in Illinois. I used a fram oil filter.... I know they suck but the next one I use will be mopar. I never really had any tapping after changing my oil till now.
Today I drove to a friends house and when I went to leave It was making this noise, first time I have heard it even make this noise. Could it be a stuck lifter or valve or rocker arm
i had the same sound in our 2.7, it was slightly low on oil (less than half a quart), so i topped it off and revved it a lot. trying to go from low oil pressure to high quickly. i came to the conclusion that something, most likely sludge broke loose and plugged an oil supply port to the head. you might try some seafoam in the oil and change it again within 500miles.
btw, it went away after about 30 minutes of hard driving and revving.
it was really my only choice besides tearing the engine apart, wasn't an option at the time.
I already had 1/4 of a can of sea foam in it since I first changed the oil. I put whole can in it and let it sit over night but it still is making the noise. I will have to change the oil back to my 10W-40 to see if that will make a difference.
Well I started her up just a few hours ago and she only made the noise for about 2 seconds and it went away. So I decided to take her for a drive going up big hills, on the highway, and stop and go in town traffic. No noise anymore, I will run it till this weekend with the sea foam and go back to Castrol GTX use a different oil filter.
KSA may be right in that something dissolved loose and temporarily clogged up a lash adjuster port - you did just put Sea Foam in the crankcase - maybe the first time that's been done? That's when you're most vulnerable to this type of thing.
