I have a problem that my car won't shift to L gear and it could only go to Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive and 3rd gear. I tried to move the gear from 3rd to L but it wont change gear especially if I am climbing uphill. What would be the cost of the problem and how much would be the estimate cost. Thanks.

I rarely use the (L) gear and I just noticed that it wont shift to (L) when I was driving uphill.

could be the computer probubly but take it to a tranny shop but i really wouldnt worrie about it cuz L gear is rarly used

It won't shift to certain gears above certain speeds to avoid spinning the engine too fast. I think the max for 1st gear is around 43mph, at least in my car.

Problem solved. I replaced my "Automatic Transmission Shifter Cable"
$90 for the parts and $120 for the labor.



If your transmission gear is too tight to move or your gear won't go to (L or D2) low gear, this is the problem.

Likely either the cable needed adjusting, or the cable was binding - but if the latter were the case, why wouldn't you have mentioned the shifter being hard to move in your OP? Perhaps that is what you were trying to say, but we took it to mean that the shifter went to the '1' position, but the transmission wouldn't stay in '1'. You meant that the shifter physically wouldn't go to the '1' position? If your shifter is in general now *MUCH* easier to move, then, yeah - it needed a new cable (rather than just an adjustment).
