About a week ago I changed my cluster lights to blue LEDs. MrBigE noticed that my temperature gauge needle was reading a little higher than normal. Right below the half way mark. I've driven the car for about a week like that and I noticed that the engine was getting hotter. The needle NEVER went over half way but you can tell it's hot because at red lights there's "squiggly" wavy lines coming from the engine bay. Today the check engine light came on. I got a P0456 code - small evap leak. I noticed a small wet spot on the floor too. Looked like oil but I didn't check the spot because I was pulling out of the Wal*Mart parking lot. I don't know if all of the above symptoms (running hotter than average, CEL, wet spot on floor) are related. I read that the problem could possibly be a bad fuel cap. Any other possibilities? What do I need to do to repair the "small evap leak"? Thanks in advance.

You need to check the fuel cap and o-ring if the o-ring is cracked replace the cap about $22.00 at the dealer! If you do not see a problem you need to track down all of the EVAp emissions lines and replace all deteriorating rubber and any cracked plastic lines! I just had a leak in mine in a line behind the engine! A service manual will help with any repairs you may do I like Chilton you can get them at most parts stores! Has the car ever been in a extreme heat climate like AZ?

I just re-tightened the cap. I think I put it on wrong today after filling the gas tank. Will definitely check it tomorrow if the CEL comes on again. I'll definitely get a Mopar cap if I need a new cap. I have a Haynes repair manual. I'll check the manual for the exact location of the emissions lines. Yes, the car HAS been in extreme heat. I live in the Mojave Desert that actually extends to Arizona. I'm about 230 miles from the AZ border.

The extreme heat will dry out all of your rubber particularly under the care closest to the pavement! At-least thats been my experience with cars from the AZ area! Good luck and let me know what you find if the cap was on wrong that was more than likely it!
