3 months and 500+ miles later...2002 intrepid SE
So,
Ive had my 2002 Intrepid SE for 3 months now. Ive only had to replace a cv joint seal (cost me nothing), and a few vacuum hoses. No big deal. At first when I bought it I was skeptical...but after using it on various trips to boston (120miles or so) from my house, and various back road trips, I've grown to really like the car.
yes it has its quarks. I need to replace a few rivets and such to eliminate some road noise, but other then that, it rides very very smooth, and handles like a car half its age. It doesn't even complain when accelerating at 75-80mph. Half the reason for this post is I am actually very pleased with the car, and have had no issues that seem common to most 2.7L's. Cars oil is very clean, previous owner was the only other owner and changed the oil religiously every 3k miles. Cars maintenance had all been done up to date, including the H20 pump...I waited 4 months to buy a used car to hold out for one with a responsible owner.
I may end up actually keeping the car. I planned on just using it as a winter vehicle, and selling it in May and getting a lease. I may now keep the 'trep and use it as a summer vehicle for longer trips (as its super comfortable) and maybe buy a 2012 Dodge Dart Limited...
Anyway. Simply put, this 10 year old dodge really surprised me, and may have convinced me to stay with American Cars in the future (or at least American in name...since Chrysler is owned by Fiat)

It is a very nice car, and as long as the oil was changed, the 2.7 will do you just fine - TILL the water pump goes. Check your oil OFTEN, just as part of a healthy ownership routine. Check it once a week, and make sure the car isn't 'making' oil (indicating water from the water pump leaking). Check that the oil is good, and not milky. Also, watch for the heat to suddenly get weak - this can also mean that the water pump has started leaking.
But yes, the car is a great car, and I'm glad you've enjoyed it.

I bought my 01 back in 05 and honestly, I love my car, too. I have only had to do routine oil changes and brake pads/rotors as maintenance. She's only given me one break down EVER and it was a break line that was old and split.

ya...my commute went from 40 miles each way to about 5-6 miles per DAY lol. Its convenient but kills what little gas mileage the Intrepid gets.
I put like 5-6000 max miles on my car a year. If that

Who cares what the mpg is. The point is you're saving a bit of money on fuel, tire wear, risk of accidents, etc. Think *dollars per day* - not *miles per gallon*. I changed jobs and moved a little over 2 years ago - my commute also went from 80 miles a day to about 3 - couldn't be happier.

Your not the only one who was made in a believer. I was very skeptical of my car when I got it. I needed a car quick and my buddy was willing to let me make payments to him for the car. I grew to it fairly quick. Besides the strut issues, its been a great car. I got my smaller wheels back on and the mileage is great.
Definitely seems like its a long haul kind of car. Its not so great with stop and go in city traffic. I drive a lot. I got the car August 2011 with 152,000 miles. Its just shy of 185k now. It was also in my garage for 4 months while I was so busy with work to finish the engine work(more preventative than necessary).
