My car was backed into recently at a pretty decent speed, the damage was pretty high. I managed to work things in my favor and the body man doing the insurance job is a friend so now is the time to do all the fun stuff at the insurance companies cost!

I've decided to repaint the entire car a different car. I can pick any color in the Dodge 2009-2010-2012 books. Always loved the color of the Daytona Ram's, but the 3-stage pearl on the Chargers for a limited year was REALLY nice to.

What do you guys think, bored of the champaign

Of course it will require more work on their part and cost to you to change the color since they can't simply fade the same color into the door frame, engine compartment, trunk, underside of hood, etc. - but I suspect you already know that.

What about the color on Dan's sig photo - called Tangerine or something like that:

Go Mango Orange would be pretty sweet.. but would stand out too much. I don't like attention, personally. Silver??? BLACK!

Yeah, I volunteer in my friends shop all the time for the sheer fun of it; definitely requires a lot more time, prep material etc. Being a small dead-end town another friend run's the insurance broker, it'll all slip by as a "covered" expense. Don't ask how he managed it but he's pulled off crazier things. A friend struck a moose at 80MPH with his Ram. $15K quoted to repair it, they added the Thunderroad package, viper hood, all the goodies, all under insurance money.

Thought about black even, but there are a number of Intrepid's around, so sticking out would be nice. Considering I'm the only local guy in this town with a marginally *done up* car.

I'll have to snap a picture of the color flash cards.The 3-Stage red looks nice, the envy green pearl too, hell the toxic orange pearl looks even nicer! Damn these books and their choices!

Settled on that Daytona truck orange last night! I think I may add some red metal flake to it. My friend had some laying on the shelf, being car guys he get's all excited and brings it up, next thing you know we're painting a old Chevy fender that was laying out to see what it looks like!

hmmm...insurance fraud usually equals jail time somewhere.....not sure I'd want any part of it but u do what u want...here in the chicago area the insurance companies are all over the body shops and account for every penny with fasteners, nuts, bolts, push pins, and especially paint....so if u can somehow pull off insurance fraud rock on....not for me.....

Agreed, posting about it wasn't the smartest thing you could do. If I were you I would try and erase this from the Internet because I'm sure yr insurance company won't be happy about it.

If the estimate is done by the book according to what parts are really needed and what work really needs doing for restoration, then the vehicle owner can do whatever he wants with the dollars the insurance company pays out, including finding a cheaper place to do the work, buying some upgrades from substituting salvage parts for new parts, leaving the car messed up and pocketing the cash, or any combination of the above - simply as compensation for the damage. At least that's how it should and does work in the civilized world.

What you're saying would come into play only if the estimate and payout were adjusted using fuzzy math compared to what the actual damage is and what it would take to restore it according to the cost numbers the insurance company uses for the needed parts and labor.
