Hey, my name is Ben. We just got my fiance's sister's car, an old intrepid. I noticed right away that it's idle and general operating has a very rough.. "idle" to it.. when accelerating it's barely noticeable but it is still there. There are NO drop-outs (engine stalls or nearly stalls) and I already replaced the Camshaft position sensor since that was one of the codes being sent.
I have not yet checked over the engine to see if it's something simple such as a loose spark plug wire..
I am going to be reading the service manuals that are posted on here (very happy about that)..
Does anyone think it could be the spark coils? I have quickly learned that this car does not have a distributor.. So the coil packs are always a concern especially on an older engine (193,000).
Also: as I replaced the Camshaft position sensor earlier today I reset the ECU/ECM by unplugging the battery for over 10 minutes. All of the codes (except for the battery disconnect code) have disappeared. Before I did this I had codes 21, 51, and 54.. 54 is the camshaft position sensor code. the other two are for O2 sensor and lean fuel mixture... I'm confused as to why they disappeared. The engine has not improved... I ran the engine a long time (drove around)
