Let me get this straight. The Corvette make 350 hp and 375 ft-lbs (on premium-91) with a dual exhaust, and the Dodge Ram (2500) Hemi makes 345 hp 365 ft-lbs (on midgrade 89) with a single exhaust. Also the compression ratio is lower on the hemi 9.6 vs 10.1

It will be interesting to see some dyno numbers for production cars/trucks to see if it is that good or over/under rated specs. On paper it seems like an very interesting V8.

A transmission has no effect on flywheel horsepower, and it is at the flywheel where auto makers messure output.

As smart as you are, I KNOW that you recocnize that the 10.1:1 requires the 91 octane because of the tendancy of gasoline to detonate under higher pressures. ;)

I think the corvette has a 2.5" exhaust system on each bank, 2 x 1.5625 =3.125 square inches (times pi of course) Lets say the Ram will have a single 3" 1.5*1.5=2.25 square inches 3.125/2.25 = 1.38888. That is a good third more area, if the Vette uses 2.5. if it only uses a 2.25" and the Ram still uses 3" then the dual has 12.5% more area.

not true- a properly tuned single exhaust will work better is alot of applications than dual. You need propper exhaust gas scavanging (backpressure)for the gasses to flow for maximum performance.

Actaully the F bodies have had a single exhaust system since the early 80's, all they have is a single in dual out muffler.
They have duals, just not true duals.

since mike w was implying that chevy motors are of poor build quality and dont produce the same hp/torque of dodge's hemi, did you look at the specs for the 2002 Z06 Vette?

Just saying your comparing chevy's base engine to dodge's top o the line motor, compare apple to apples. And you cant throw in the dodge viper v10 motor, im taking 8 cylinder to 8 cylinder. Chevy doesnt have a motor to compare evenly with the vipers because they dont need one, chevy can almost equal the vipers numbers with the z06 with 2 less cylinders. Not talking crap about dodge but they need extra cylinders because they dont have the hemi back in action yet.
