Skim,PCM module troubles
I have a unique problem that I know other people are having. I have a 2003 dodge ram, It was stolen and recovered. I purchased a used steering column for it and installed it myself. This is where the problems begin. My original truck did not have the Sentry key or skim modules. THe new column did have the grey headed key and skim module installed. So when I started the truck for the first time it shut off after a couple of seconds. This process repeated about three times and then wouldn't start at all. The security light was blinking.
I had the vehicle towed to the dodge dealer and at first they said I was screwed and didn't know how to fix it. To make a long story short they changed the VIN number in my PCM to match the one in the SKIM module on the column. So the vehicle will now start and run. The only problem is now the brake and ABS lights stay on because the VIN number doesn't match the one stored in the Brake control module. The dealer said to buy a new brake control module and they could program it with a new VIN but this is 600 dollars. Also the only VIN number that can be changed is the one in the PCM the rest of the modules are a one time setup/Burn.
So now my ABS and cruise control don't work because of a wrong VIN in the pcm, but if I have it changed back then the Security will be activated and the truck will ont start.
