No signs of forced entry!!

Well been a long day, woke up this morning to go to work, went to warm up the company truck and noticed a few things missing.My company laptop which must be kept plugged in at all times(company didn't give me a home charger) Was gone as well at the equipment I use to locate underground untilities.It almost seems like an inside job, like someone I work with did it.

A few months ago there was a thread about unlocking our cars incase you lock the keys in.I explained how easy it is to get into the Ford Rangers(my company truck).Well thats what happened no broken glass and nothing else of value was missing, such as the camera the company issued for taking pictures of jobs I complete.Who ever it was was petty enough to leave the cammera but take 4 packages of 12 AA batteries.They also left the company gas card which would have done them no good without the 2 passwords I have to punch on to use it.

We live and learn I guess and I am unsure what to do about protecting my belongings other than packing them in the house at night, I guess if thats what I have to do I will.How good is the factory anti theft, against this kinda thing?Also if I were to buy a new alarm system for my Intrepid, anybody have reccomendations?

Yah, I caught someone trying to break into my Mazda once. My alarm is so f**king loud, the dude just ran. I do have paging, but I heard it in the parking lot from my office. Basically about 5 or 600 yards away, and in a building. 11 sirens, plus somehow the horn got hooked into it. It's just plain obnoxious.

Garage
That sucks to hear. I cant stand thieves.

Ranger is super simple-- about 10 seconds with a slim jim, or less than a minute with a wonder bar and airbag-- might as well not even have locking doors.... same with our treps unfortunately.

Factory anti-theft is usually worthless, I see cadillacs and lincolns that were stolen all the time, and the key with the chip, anti-theft, etc, seem to do nothing to prevent it. The only good factory theft is one that disables the starter if the door is opened without the key-- nissans, toyotas, mazdas for example.

Ive seen LHS, 300M and Intrepid ES with the "SKIM" system stolen, no problem-- the ignition is cleaned out of everyone of them-- seems the "skim" system is bypassed easily.

You can get a really good alarm system, with a good starter kill -- but if they really want it, chances are they will still get it-- what you are hoping to do is scare them away with the alarm-- like tooch mentions.

I would recommend a secret engine disable switch-- concealed into one of the other misc switches, thats about your best deterrent-- and you would have to make that yourself-- that will stop them from stealing your car--but not breaking into it-- and the lowlifes in this town usually mess the car up if they cant steal it-- ie slash tires, key it, set it on fire, etc.

My anti-theft== cameras, a .357 and a .45---

Also, sirens should be hooked up on different relays and different power sources. So if they cut one, the others are still blaring. Put a piezo siren inside your car too. This will cause the theif to go deaf.....literally. Or in my case, put two in there and just hope it never goes off while you're in there.

That sucks man. So how much trouble do you get in from work? Do you have to buy a new laptop or do they just replace it and go on? It would suck getting suspended or fired from all this.

Actually Skim is one of the harder ones to steal. Gm is super easy seeing as up until 2 years ago it was basically just a resister in the key. Theres a company called pop-a-lock that gets into vehicles for owners that have locked their keys in. I've used them took them less than 30 seconds to get into my old work van 2002 safari. Lets face it if they want it they will get it no matter what kind of alarm or anti-theft device you have.

I guess you would call them a theft deterant. I agree if they want it bad enough they will take it any ways.I piezo siren that tooch mentioned are cheap but I can't think of a way to wire them in. I think a kill switch hidden somewhere would be best bet.Along with an alarm that way they bring attention to the vehicle.

You can wire them in with the rest of the sirens. Just don't have it go off while you're in it. A good example of mine is that if it goes off, it will set off other alarms because it went off. The whole underside of the car rattles from sirens. It works. Tons of sound equipment, still there after years.
