trep rims: dual bolt pattern

i have some aftermarket rims for my 96 trep that came with 2 bolt patterns. i have a 99 grand prix that has 5x115 wheels. i would like to use the wheels on the GP but am not sure how to measure the bolt pattern on the rims. what are the odds that the pattern is right? i don't have centering rings now and i get a vibration from time to time. should i look into getting them if i put the wheels on the GP? does anyone even use rings?

They do sell tools for measuring them. It is basicly a big plastic ring with a bunch of precisely drilled holes in it for measuring that. Might cost a couple of bucks. Or I remember seeing on Tirerack.com that on the wheels screen it does say what the bolt pattern is.

There is a .072" difference in the bolt pattern between the trep and the GP.
Be very careful, this doesn't sound like much, but the consequences....

There is the possibility that the wheels are perfect for the GP, and "close enough" for the trep...
5x4.5 is not a common front wheel drive pattern if you exclude Chrysler products...

The intrepid is 5x114.3, the GP is 5x115, I have used Gp wheels on my Intrepid with no problems at all and now have 5x115 pattern wheels on my 300M as well

You do not need rings because the intrepid and GP are both bolt centric, not hub centric

i checked the rims tonight. the other bolt pattern is smaller than the trep's. i can eyeball it so it must be a lot. i would say 5-108? thats a ford pattern. like a windstar or taurus. the honda pattern is 5-114. so the trep is 114.3 and my GP is 115. i say go for it. thats only .020" different

Any Gran Prix is 5-115mm, a Grand Am is 5-100mm, The LH series is 5-114.282mm or more properly 5-4.5".
The true difference is .028" or .718 mm. I was incorrect earlier, wrong unit conversion.
Be aware that many aftermarket wheels are sold as suitable for both bolt circles even though the true size is 5-115mm.
Watch your lug nut torque is the bottom line..check it often initially, then once a month thereafter.

i really wanted to just use the tires and did not care about the rims. so this weekend i swapped the tires onto my original rims. i was at the tire store and they have new blizzak tires for $25. nice price. end of season sale. they have 31-10.5-15 too for my sons dakota for $30. but he only has 1 set of rims. switching fall/spring is a pain.

For those prices I say pick up a couple sets (if you have the room and $$) when the cold hits this year sell the extras and it should be more then enough to cover the cost of rims
