Then don't waste your money by purchasing 5qts of Mobil1 for $6.49ea.

I ran mine on dino for over 133k miles. No problems with mine whatsoever.

Just because oil is dark does not mean that it's garbage. From what I noticed, synthetic oil get's darker quicker than the Napa Dino oil I used to use(and will go back to in the summer.)

Oil filters should be changed every time you change the oil.

WIX filters are the best. The Mobil1 filters are crap. Same with Fram.

I was at Napa yesterday picking up a qt of Mobil1 when I noticed that the price jumped almost a whole dollar since I last purchsed one.

anyway, I asked the guy if the price recently went up and he said yes. He said that the price of all brands will be going up. Napa oil will be going up .40 on the 12th of March.

Looks like I will be going back to Napa oil.

Some of yours need a mechanic course about engine.........synthetic oil is better to keep clean, sludge free... all moving piece in the motors, prevent heat , and yes it is better to drain it every 3k....you could go 5k.........but if you are in a region with big difference of temperature is better to change it.......and every GOOD MECHANIC...will tell you the same.

The 2.7 motors, is one of the worst engine to built that sludge.........keep it clean.

Your first sentence, I have to disagree with. JoeKD may do things differently than you or I. But that's a long way from saying he does not know what he is talking about. JoeKD has helped me out on several occasions, once in finding a larger capacity oil filter, and several other times in info he was giving on other threads to other people. So, no, I do not accept your assertion that JoeKD does not know what he is talking about.

Your second sentence is a matter of personal preference. For the record, I had two 2.7-equipped Intrepids, both went to over 230K miles, and all they ever got was conventional Castrol 5W-30 @ 3K mile intervals. I was not even aware during that time frame that these engines had a sludge problem.

However, had they been my personal cars, and knowing the issues the 2.7 has with sludge, I would run Mobil 1 5W-30 and change oil and filter @ 3K miles. Expensive oil every few months is cheap insurance against the cost of a major rebuild or engine change, for most folks.

And, for the record, in my current personally-owned 3.5-equipped SXT I use Mobil 1 Extended Duration 5W-30 and I go the whole 15K miles on it. Different engine, different requirements. It gets a new filter every 5K miles because I use the Mobil 1 M-301 filter, a larger cap. filter. Which JoeKD told me about.

Sentence three: ok, I missed where JoeKD mentioned the 500-mile figure. Still, joe was trying to make a larger point, which I think you may have missed. Nice work on your math.

One final observation: you seem to be having a problem with people disagreeing with you. It seems to be provoking you into calling me "lame," saying ohers "don't know what they are talking about." Just because they do things a mite differently than you. Well, maybe you will be more mature when you turn 15 in a couple of years. It's abig world out there, sport, with all kinds of people doing all sorts of things differently than you. Get used to it.

BTW, joekd didn't use math. He just said 500 miles. He did not work out a problem like I did.

Look James, you can kiss joekd's a$$ all you want to. It doesn't matter if he helped you out.

He could not be anymore wrong about this.

I can't believe I am smarter than himself and you when it comes to saving money. I am only 19yo.

It's not worth fighting about this. If you want to waste your money, go ahead. It's your's. I on the otherhand am not a dumba$$ and know the value of a dollar.

I know everyone won't agree with me. That's fine. But this is common sense.

This is why you go to college. You learn this crap in economics.

Joekd is a very smart guy. But when he says that you should buy Mobil1 and then change it at 500 miles or anything under 5k miles, he is just nuts.

The 2.7 may have problems with oil but even with conventional you can run more than 3k without any troubles. I recently switched to syth just so i could run longer. I figured the price i pay for this would match up or come close to two oil changes of conventional and help improve my engine at the same time. Syth does become darker a lot faster. Before i was using mobile clean 5000 and it took tell near 4500 miles before it started to turn. But i noticed my friends car got dirty when he was running syth after about 1k. But i really don't find it necessary to change it every 3k. Regardless of what people recommend or what it looks like syth is designed to run for much longer than conventional before it starts to break down.

You go to college? Since you seem like you know so much about oil, I did hear you mention that you will be switching from Synthetic back to Dino Oil, you should know from being a self-proclaimed expert that this in fact is not recommended.

I have done it twice already with no problems bro.

I am not worried at all. It's a better economic move on my part.

Plus my engine is very clean inside.
