quick oil change ?

i have been using full synth mobile one for the 7 months i have owned my 01' 2.7 intrepid and using a [email protected] oil filter. i was wondering do you have to change the filter every 3k miles too and does synth oil last longer? i have been changing both oil and filter every 3k on the mark just because of the 2.7 sludge myth.

for the best running of your 2.7 you should change the oil and filter every 3.000 m AND ONLY SYNTHETIC OIL.........keep the engine clean.......i m doing it since 2002 in my intrepid es 2001 2.7 ............no problem at all.......

If you are changing your oil every 3k miles, DO NOT use synthetic. All you are doing is wasting your money.

The price of Mobil1 has gone up btw.

for the record myself and 95% of the members here strongly disagree with this statement

the extra protection of synthetic is worth the extra money even if you change your oil every 500 miles

Well then you and 95% of your people here are dumb consumers. Why would you pay (Here in Chicago) $6.39 a qt and only drive it for 500 miles and then do it all over again?

Quick math: 6.39X(5)= $31.95 not including tax.

Filter (Napa Gold) $6.59 ---some of you^^ buy filters that are more $$$$$.

$31.95
+ $6.59
__________
$38.54 for a total (not including tax) So you are easily talking around $45 for a oil change.

I don't know how far you went in math at school but IMO and about 99.9% of people on this earth, that's alot of money to be wasting.

Your little percentage is more like 5% who agree with you. I wouldn't insult the other 90% of the members.

I drive a 2009 Impala now but I loved my Intrepid.

Synthetic oil is made to go 5k miles for a reason. Some go longer than that. So why drain it at 3k? You have a whole 2k miles to go.

so change oil at 3k and use synth but should i change the filter too i like the [email protected] because of the valve in them that keeps the oil on top of the engine.

I like JoeKD's math better than yours. 3K miles does not equal 500 miles. It's slightly more than 500 miles.

No. Don't listen to these people who are telling you that. They are not what I call math savy. They have no idea what the value of a dollar is.

If you want to waste your money by changing it every "500" miles or whatever, then go for it. It's not my money. I would use that money for my kids or something better than oil.

Again, joekd has no idea what he is saying.

If you buy synthetic oil, go the whole 5k miles. Don't be like him and waste your money.

BTW, joekd didn't use math. He just said 500 miles. He did not work out a problem like I did.

Here is a question for joekd and his other 3 guys who agree.

Why would it say on the bottle that Mobil1 can go for 5k miles? I think they know what they are talking about over you.

My 2.7 only ever saw the cheapie oil ( I didn't know any better at the time ) every 5,000 to 7000 kms ( 3200-4400 miles ) and it ran great at 270,000kms ( 180,000 miles ) Now my ESs get better oil ( not synthetic ) every 5,000 kms. My brother's SSEi gets synthetic, and the dealer tells him only every 7,000 kms, synthetic doesn't break down like regular oil, so even at that it's still clean and clear. I would suggest looking at your oil when it's drained...if it's dirty at 5000 miles, change it more frequently....but, that's just my opinion!

Or at 3000 miles you could pay for one of those used oil analysis and see if you could the whole 5000 miles.

You may be right however let's not forget that the 2.7 is, compared to other engines, pretty hard on its oil for whatever reason. IMO Mobil 1 made the 5000 mile claim based on your average engine, which the 2.7 is not.

i like cokey11's logic but if i have not changed the oil in like 6k miles or more and it still looks "clean and clear" should i keep going or change it. btw should the filter be changed every time even if its a [email protected]?
