With light weight, and a manual transmission, a Sunfire GT / Cavalier Z24 might keep even with a 3.5 Intrepid up to a certain point. However, our cars will be ultimately faster in the top end.
At lower speeds, it's the power to weight ratio that dominates. At higher speeds, it's a combination of power to weight AND power to drag ratio. Past 100 kph, then 2.4 will be struggling to keep up. Pask 150 kph, I doubt the Sunfire has any chance against an R/T.
Old man car? With proper tires I've smoked a Z24 in the winding mountain roads. But that was with my old RSA tires and FF compound police brake pads.
Linuxglobal, that G8 is truely an amazing car, heads and shoulders beyond most other GM products. The GXP model claims 50/50 weight distribution, full adjustable camber/caster/toe, Brembo 14" brakes, Vette LS3, and the 6 spd Viper/Vette manual transmission. I doubt anything from the Mopar barn can keep up, short of the Viper of course.
