Question Advise on selling price

Hello all,

Our Intrepid has to go, daughter is starting to drive soon, wants a smaller vehicle with 4-cylinder engine.

So before we offer the vehicle for sale (trade in offers range from $250 to $500), I thought I ask here, maybe someone appreciates it more. We can always sell a car here in Northern Indiana for $1,000, as long as it runs. Yet our car is much better. Maybe someone here is looking for an unmolested one with no issues?

It is a 2001 Dodge Intrepid SE 2.7, dealer said it is 2002 model so water pump issues were already fixed. Car has just a little over 220,000 miles on it, and no issues at all. Drives and shifts great, no issues. We always had it serviced at dealer and/or local shop (all receipts on file). No visible rust, looks good except for the trunk lid were the paint is dull. Color of car is silver outside/black inside.

No leaks nowhere, engine is dry, engine oil (changed every 3,000 miles) is clean.

At around 200,000 miles we had changed the spark plugs and boots, power steering fluid, transmission fluid and a new shifter cable installed. Also some O2 sensors were replaced.

Complete, no cracks anywhere, no missing pieces, no worn seat/pedals/steering wheel. Has some door dings and 2 lights scratches. Front shocks are getting weak (rear ones were replaced), they now start leaking slowly.

Has factory OEM block heater (wonderful!), also has a aftermarket Viper remote with remote start, but we had it disabled (fuses pulled).

We would appreciate if someone could give us an idea what we could ask for, or if someone is interested, tell us what they would pay.

Thank you!

Regardless of which year it is, its long past due for a waterpump. KBB would put it around $1,700 but if you figure in the maintenance that it needs, depending on the quality of parts (no aftermarket quickstruts with the crappy bearing mounts) who does the work it could easily exceed the value.

On the other side of things, most people would pay a thousand for a car that runs and drives (how long it will continue before the waterpump goes is questionable, most don't make it this long). The Viper system is probably worth a couple hundred to a buyer and the block heater might make it more appealing but probably won't up the price much.

A 200k + mile SE with a 2.7L? Without the water pump/timing chain set being done and front suspension work...I wouldn't give you more than $750 for it. Closer to $500 would probably be better due to the cost of the work that needs to be done. The replacement of those items with labor could easily go over $1500.

Basically the two things you have going against you are the high mileage and the 2.7L.

And that's just my opinion and what I would pay. Others might have a rosier outlook!

Thank you. Yes, I know the secrets:

- do not mess around
- do maintenance as recommended with the tools/fluids recommended by someone who knows what he/she does (and at the dealer with warranty)
- know how to drive.

Never had a vehicle failing. If so, it really must be junk.
