The oil plug is on the very bottom of the engine oil pan, on the passenger side of it. It will look like just a bolt head. It takes a 13mm wrench or socket.

Just dropping the filter will only get the oil out that is in the filter, which is a quart or less. The drain plug has to be pulled.

If the bolt is attached to bottom of the oil pan, it is the drain plug. Hopefully you have had some instruction and know what you are doing.

I have never seen a drain plug that faced sideways. They are usually at about a 45 degree angle facing downward.

You mean rounded off? Don't go to the dealer, go to the parts store and get a new drain plug, and a set of vice grips. The vice grips should allow you to break the bolt loose. Once you get it out, replace it with the new one. If the vice grips won't work, a small pipe wrench will almost certainly get it out.

Just make sure that if you do it yourself, that you put the screw in very straight. Our cars have an aluminum pan and it's easy to stripped the thread in the pan and then you'll need a new one....
