Cost Cutting/Factory Cuts/Downgraded

This is going to be an official list of what dodge/chrysler did to cut cost.

Please list any items that you know of either on your vechile or others. This could be something simple or complex.

Such as my 96 ES had the wires ran for autostick but no autostick. My other 96 car had wires for traction control and theres no traction control.

I know there was talks that they didnt put the glove box light on some 2nd gens.

Please also post years.

All these are starting in 2002:
-Less sound insulation
-Thinner plastic on the coolant resevoir
-I think the dash & the paint was also cheapened

Some of things that may have been done to cut costs, I think maybe were done as inprovements. At some point they removed the fabric and carpet from the doors ( big improvement IMO ), fixed cupholders ( although the design should have been better ) better quality airbag covers, ( I notice a lot at the yards seem to curl up at the edges, as well as the dash board pads ). The whole integration of the wiring ( TCM/PCM ) is definately an improvement for some of our mods.

Started MID-2002 model year. My '02 R/T has the thicker plastic resevoirs.

ANYWAYS:

Cut 1999
-Dashboard bezel with pockets
-Black replaced with Slate

Cut 2002
-Trunk lid liner (added plastic piece that covers mechanism)
-Fabric door panels (went to leatherette instead, probably an improvement)
-Seperate TCM and PCM, now an integrated PCM unit

Cut mid-2002
-Headlight levellers
-Thick plastic fluid tanks
-Double locking electrical connectors

Cut 2003
-R/T model
-Popout cupholders (BOOOO, why'd they cut this?)
-17" Crusader rims on the SXT, now 16" Momentum rims
-AutoStick
-Fabric on bottom of doors (makes the door panels look CHEAP)

Added 2004
-Foglight bumper - standard on all models including SE's (at least for Canadian models)

No clue when cut list
-Lighted switches
-Rubber hood release latch cover

Rob 2002 Chrysler Intrepid R/T (modded), 2015 Nissan Leaf S
March 2008 Car of the Month! 2007 Carlisle "Class" trophy! 2006 IM Best of Show!

Can't speak to changes between 2nd gen years, but from 1st gen to 2nd (I have '01 ES and '96 base) there was one big change that must have saved a bundle.
xhaust on '96 was all stainless steel, not on '01.

Most of the "better" LH cars are a low-grade of stainless, pretty much all of the SE's are not.

Chrome tips were deleted in most of the 04 LH cars though.

Really? Because I have the SE and my exhaust is in very good shape for 150,000 miles in the WI winters for 8 years.

I'm not sure if you all would accept a first gen list, but here goes. Lemme say that first off my 94 base model is max wired for all the bells and whistles it just doesn't have any of them. It's wired for power mirrors, otis, traction control, fog lights, auto dimming headlights, the auto temp sensor for the upgraded heater and a/c controls, it even has speaker spots in the harness for the third speakers in front and back( not sure why), the relay and fuse are there for the power seats (i don't have em).

I'm not sure what else it's wired for at the moment I'd have to go back and check and make a complete list.
