NOT HAPPY with SEARS>>>>>

Well some of you know That I had the 245/40/18's goodyears on my special rims for a bit now. Lately the smaller size has really been bothering me. So I go and pick up a brand new set of 5 255/45/18's and go to have them mounted at Sears since Bobby Reccomended them, (believe me none of this is directed towards you).

Anyways me and Bobby went there saturday and waited for 4 hours just for them to tell us they cant get the tires to pop/seal. So I'm thinking maybe the width combined with the brand are to blame since the 255's are reccomended for a 8" wheel. So anyways I'm bummed but I'll get over it. They end up remounting my old tires and drive out of there with my wallet intact. Sold the tires monday night and took a little bit of a loss but nothing major.

That brings me to last night. Found a brand new set of takeoffs with less than 50 miles on them. A beautiful set of 235/50/18's. I couldnt refuse the great price/condition of the tires.

So today I get home from work. load the tires in my car and head to sears once again. So they start my car and it seems like the same problem all over again, no seal. So im getting a bit upset at this point but then he gets the first one mounted. I start feeling better. Anyways I knew it would take a bit longer than normal considering the dismount of the runflats. So 2.5 hours later there done. I dont even thing about looking at the wheels before I pay just because I was so relievd that they got all 4 on and it never crossed my mind. So I pay and walk out.

Now the fun part. I look at the first wheel. theres some pretty signifigant damage to them, followed by the second (worse than the first) and then I get to the third and the damage was horrible, They actually took chunks out of the paint. and not little dings/scratches. I mean chunks right down to bare metal. There one at least an inch by a half inch. There BAD. Then I go to get up and also notice i'm now missing a locking lugnut...lovely. And of course the kid say, "oh that wasnt there". And the manager took his side on that.

So back in the store I go, The guy at the desk follows me out and looks at the damage, he almost looks scared and in a fainy voice says "um let me get the manager" So the manager comes out and takes a look, then ask's the one who did it: "do you think you could of done this?" I'm just thinking, who the [email protected] else would have done it. He replies "i don't know, I was just focusing on getting the tires on".

So the manager says, "theres 2 things we can do, I can either take "some" money off or we could send them out to refinish them" Here I am again thinking to myself, lets see, $110 to mount and balance all 4 tires, Even if he gave me ALL of it back it wouldnt cover the refinishing. Obviosly I opted for the refinishing.

The problem is he said it could be up to 2 weeks to get them done. Which of Course brings us to Carlisle. So unless They come back sooner I'll be rolling on my original R/T wheels which I might add are not in the greatest shape.
I just bought and installed all new cross drilled and slotted rotors along with new pads and had plans to paint my calipers. With the way things are, it doesnt look so good.

The wheels were in near pefect shape before and now they just look like complete shit.

I apoligize for the long read, But like most I need to vent. I am truly pissed and needed to do something to cool down.

Wow, that SUCKS bud!

Not to be stereotypical or anything........but I'd take it to a Mexican, they put giant rims on anything and everything and generally know what they're doing when it comes to mounting tires!

I would find out where they are going to be refinished.
I would also see if you have the option of powdercoating them.
In most cases, it is not more expensive, but will last much longer.

Rat bastards...sorry for your experience.

My father in law went to get his tires changed at a local shop and they did the same thing, except he drives a Bimmer 750Li. He was furious. He made them buy him a whole new rim. And it was the special rim too, so I'm sure those bitches PAID for it..lol

I dont think I'll have the option of powdercaoting them, will find out the details tomorrow.

I'll get new wheels if Im not happy with the refinish, believe me.

LOL funny thing to read this a similar thing just happened to me. though it was pep boys. Had some tires mounted to my magnum rims and since they were installed the passenger side had a slow leak. i took it back and he takes the tire off puts some bead sealer and brings the car around i go to leave and look at the tire and their are two knicks in the edge one is a shard of metal sticking up. I go in end up talking to the manager and he says they can cut the jagged piece off or find a replacement rim. i said a replacement rim 5 days later get a call and they have a brand new 18" dodge magnum rim still in the Chrysler box They pop it on and i ask bout the old rim he says i don't want it you get it so i got an extra magnum rim plus i kept the tires they took off so I'm gonna get it mounted and use as a full size spare. i actually came out ahead just aggravation. It wasn't the damage cause i could probably of lived with it it was the total denial they did it.

Another story back in 01 i got a brand new set of rims for my galant at discount tire. first rotation they scratch every lug nut hole with the impact wrench i complained and they couldn't get replacements cause i got them on clearance so the manager handed me the wheel books and said pick whatever set you want . the original rims were 80$ a piece the replacements were 199 a piece. sometimes just sometimes being a A$$Hole does work LOL

Exactly why I normally change my own.
Takes some time and effort, but saves the wheel.

All the shit I've seen and heard from Sears, its amazing they still have a tire center. Them and Monkey Wards were just as bad. That's Montgomery Wards for those youngsters who might not have heard of it.

Sorry to hear about your problem Brian!

I never use Sears either since they forgot to fully tighten the lug nuts on my wife's Grand Cherokee. She drove the car from PA to Virginia and had to pull over when one of the wheels almost fell off. Needless to say, there was some damage to the aluminum wheel, and the studs were ruined.

Can't remember all the details now, but they refused to believe it was their fault. After making enough noise, they paid for the stud replacement and for a junk yard wheel. That was about five years ago, and I have never been back since.

Good luck!
