My 2004 2.7L Intrepid has leaked its engine coolant. Came home from errands, had no problems or leaks while out. Got home parked in driveway and all of a sudden coolant is running out. Got underneath and it was coming from a hole in the block right next to the plate that secures the lower radiator hose, located on drivers side of engine, down low towards the front. Any experience with this?
Waterpump is leaking. Do not drive it any further until you get it fixed otherwise you risk coolant getting into the oil due to the location of the waterpump. If coolant gets into the oil you will ruin the bearings.
Did the oil pressure warning light ever come on while you were driving it? Also, have you heard any odd noises like knocking coming from the engine? If not then I would say that it is time to consider replacing the waterpump, timing components, and maybe a few other small things.
It would also be a good idea to check the dipstick to see if the oil level is higher than it should be and if the oil on it looks milky. I'm curious how many miles you have on that car.
I agree. You have to replace your water pump. That hole is called weep hole. The main function of it is to release pressure build up due to busted seals of the pump. Also its an indicator that you need to replace it asap.
