Cool 2000 Trep Base w/130k

Hello all. From what I read on the site, the 2.7L's fail at about 50-60k miles. Well, I have 130k miles, and adding more everyday. The only major service I've had done is the timing chain replaced as a preventative(sp) measure. Anyways, what potential problem areas should I look at next. I use Mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic, change it every 5000 miles, do regular tune-ups, etc. BTW, I drive about 600 miles a week, on the highway to and from work. Thank you.

Welcome to the site.

Keep that up and your 2.7 will last forever. Ive got a neighbor that runs the same oil in his, has done 2 water pumps and timing chains -- for preventative -- and just cleared 300K on the original motor.

just a thought. It seems that almost everyone here who had thier 2.7 go well over a 100k seem to be driving a lot. Could that actually help prevent faliure? I mean all the cars above 100k here are fine, yet when ever there is a problem it's in the 60s -80s

Cool

From what I've read here, and on other sites, sludge is the main killer of these engines. Mainly because of short trips; ie:stop and go in the city, less than 5 mile trips, etc. I drive at least 100 miles a day, all of it at or above 70 mph. Before I bought this car, it was a rental car for Enterprise. So, appearantly(sp), this has almost always been a highway car.
