Codes via off,on, off, on, off on.

I did this key thing and got two codes. . . P 0118 and P 0340

My car a 2002 Intrepid, 72000 miles seems to always start if allowed to set for some time. . .
like overnight. . . will start immediately. . . if I turn it off. . .it will not start again. . . until another set. . .

A pretty capable mechanic replace a couple of sensors. . .but could not solve the problem. . . felt it might be the computer. . .

What do those codes tell us? Help. . .

P0118 is the coolant sensor and P0340 is the can sensor. Were these the ones that were replaced by your mechanic?
The can shaft sensor will make it act like that. Check the wiring to both sensors, make sure there is no corrosion. And with the can shaft sensor, OEM only, for after market is hit and miss. More of a miss though.

well the cam shaft sensor was replaced twice but I was told there was an intermittent reading. . .

The PO 118 was not replace. . . the other sensor replaced was a Crk Pos. Sensor. . .

what is happening is the car starts after sitting like overnight. . immediately. . . turn off the engine. . . and you can't start it again. . . cranks and cranks. . . Mechanic said sometime spark. . .sometimes not. . .

and last time driven . . .sort of loss of power. . . .and also a surge of power. . .

Mechanic said He gave up . . . couldn't figure cause. . .suspected computer. . . or bad wiring. . . car has 72000 miles. . .

any ideas or suggestions?

Check fuel pressure. You want to see steady 60PSI +- with no wavering.

Or a new mechanic who know how to do his job. Sounds like he has been using after market can sensors. Look online, one source is www.moparparts.com
If you were closer I would help out as much as possible. I will look up today what resistances you are suppose to get and where, and post on here later.

Sorry I was not able to find anything. Your best bet is to make sure you have no corrosion at either connectors, and that there are no nicks or cuts in the wires, or that you don't have anything grounding out. Have the can shaft sensor replaced with a Mopar sensor.

Be sure to disconnect the battery while replacing both sensors. This will allow the computer to reset, clearing any codes. If they come back after you have new sensors in, then I would be looking at the PCM.
