Your take on the new Charger? OT

I'm looking into a new/er car to buy to possibly replace my Intrepid when both the loans are paid off and we get some other stuff taken care of.

I'm curious as to what your thoughts are on them, which setup should I get? should I bother with a former police vehicle? What engine is better? Aftermarket upgrades for better mileage?

Need more details on what you want in a car.

Mileage, power, seating, price, trans, front or rear drive. Sometimes you can't get them all in one car so then it's time to comprimise.

i just talked to my principal 5 minutes ago about the new chargers, too heavy, not enough ass unless you get the hemi, and even then, nothing special.

if your looking for something dependable, go for imports

thats the only problem, I don't want another import. I already have one. And if this one requires a little bit of work, unlike the vehicle I have now, I'd take it in a heartbeat

I thought they were a stupid four door and a disgrace to the Charger name. But then they kept making them faster and faster with the Hemi and SRT-8 and its like everyone forgot it was a four door because it was fast.

If you are looking to replace the trep with a newer car I would recomend a CTS. You can find a use one for appox. 10 to 15 grand and the 3.1L engine in them has a good record. After driving one (replacing my vision next year) I found that it was a fairly close match in performance and feel.

For one thing, you won't be able to touch a V8 Challenger right now and if you could, expect to pay big $$$ in dealer gouging. Don't see the hype myself. Same as the Charger really, just a 2 door and a slightly shorter chassis.
Though I like my Magnum, if I were in the market for a new sedan would I buy a Charger or a 300? No. Hate to say it, but I'd take a Pontiac G8 over it. Think you can actually get them cheaper even.

The G8 GT copaired to the similar Charger R/T Has more horsepower (361 VS 340) and only slightly less torque (5 ft-lbs) less. But to top it it provides and EPA estimated same as the charger 15 MPG city and 1 extra MPG on the higway with 24 MPG. And to top it all off it has more interior room and cargo space, and more standard features. But if you want fuel econmy go with the V6, the reviewers still give the V6 G8 a good review for performance. But the one common complint about the G8 is the lack of a folding rear seat? Pontiac says its to keep the chasis stiff but my guess is its the one thing GM skimped on the G8 to keep it afordable. (All of this information was from the pontiac, dodge, and MSN autos websites, so yes it it reliable and true.)
