Question Need Help

I have a 2001 dodge Intrepid SE 2.7L, I have had this car since Jan 2003 and have never had a problem with it up until about a year ago. I noticed it would shake or slip into drive whenever I would shift it from any other gear and took it to get it serviced about 2 months after having that done the car had gotten to the point where the only thing i can do with it is get it from park to reverse or to drive but it only has one gear first, I have heard that this could be the shift solenoid but i was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and if so who to go about fixing it. Thanks in advance for the advice.

so you mean it wont shift past 1st gear ? Like your max speed is around 20-30 without redlining.

It sounds like its the shifting solenoid which is the most common problem.
I dont know much about it, however ill run a search for you.

I just searched "solenoid" and "transmission solenoid"

BTW any codes coming up when you are driving? You should get something in the check engine sector.

My parents have several work vans that had issues with transmissions but they would either lose the OD or be stuck in OD. Financially speaking it was cheaper to get new transmissions of the vehicles or relatively new units (ie under 50k km) as opposed to rebuilding the problematic transmissions.
I just ran a search on Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market and found them new transmissions and paid a shop to install them.

Im just suggesting that as a backup in case you find that its more serious than you thought. The overall cost for us was about 900$/vehicle including the labour for a 40k km tanny. Pretty decent cost if you add it all up for a relatively new car but im not sure how much intrepids are worth nowadays.
